Today we need BIG prayers.

One of our guests, Mr B, is having brain surgery today. This spring, he was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. The tumor was removed and he went through a tough course chemo and radiation. A few weeks ago, scans revealed a regrowth, and today he begins another journey of surgery-chemo-radiation.

Please pray for the surgeons and team that operate on him today. Pray for the nursing staff who will provide his care after the surgery. Pray that there are no complications and his time there is short (hopefully just one night) Pray for safety on the journey home. Pray for our case manager Leasa Marie who will be by his side through his hospital stay. Pray for the future treatments he will face after the surgery. Pray Mr B stays strong through all this, and that he keeps his good sense of humor (this morning he told Leasa they need to install a zipper on his head just in case!) Most of all, pray for healing, comfort and peace through his difficult cancer journey.

Cancer is scary for all of us, but think of the extra challenges homelessness piles on it. Imagine trying to keep track of medications, get to all the appointments, understand the complicated treatment plan, all alone. Imagine having nowhere to rest at night, no place to lay down after chemo wipes you out, and no one to give you the attention and lovingcare we all crave during an illness. Thankfully, Mr B has not had to face any of that. The first few months he was with us at the shelter and everyone (staff, volunteers, other clients) made an effort to see that he was cared for and keep him comfortable. When the time came for our doors to close for the season, our main concern was his well-being. Through the tireless efforts of Leasa, the generosity of the Lawrence County Cancer Society, and some good friends, Mr B has been safely housed throughout this journey. He has never missed an appt and he has taken all his meds and done all his treatments. He has a place to go after this surgery. He knows he is loved.

We will update you throughout the day on his progress. Please pray as big and as often as you can, and pass it on to other prayer warriors. We know prayer works, and we see it every day in our work. We know the love our Lord has for our men, and we know God's hand is on Mr B today. Thank you for praying for this special man. The prayers of the righteous are powerful, so send those powerful prayers up today! James 5:16
