Westchester Land Trust Preserving and stewarding land in Westchester and eastern Putnam Counties, NY.

Based in Bedford Hills, the Westchester Land Trust works with public and private partners to preserve land in perpetuity and to enhance the natural resources in Westchester and eastern Putnam counties—a densely populated region under persistent threat from the pressures of development. Through the use of conservation easements and outright acquisition, WLT’s efforts benefit the long-term health of communities from Yonkers and Mamaroneck to Cortlandt, Bedford, and Patterson—and everywhere in between—by safeguarding air quality, food supply, and community character, as well as critical watershed areas. Since its founding in 1988, WLT has preserved more than 9,000 acres of open space including 1,000 acres of preserves owned and managed by the organization which are free and open to the public year round.

From pulling invasive vines to helping shape the future of conservation...please join us in welcoming Thatcher Drew to our Board of Directors!

A Bronxville resident, Thatcher first got involved with WLT as a stewardship volunteer, working alongside our team to care for protected forests. He later joined our Advisory Board, bringing his experience in technology, communications, and organizational strategy to our mission. Now, he's taking that commitment one step further as a member of our Board of Directors.

We're grateful for Thatcher's enthusiasm, thoughtful leadership, and dedication to ensuring the land we protect today continues to thrive for generations. Read more about our newest Director at https://loom.ly/joP3g_c

There's a whole lot of history beneath our feet, and we think that rocks!🪨

We recently headed out to Westchester Wilderness Walk/Zofnass Family Preserve in Pound Ridge for a geology hike led by WLT Program Manager (and resident geologist) Kim Fendrich, exploring the fascinating natural history written into this landscape.

From ancient rocks to the forces that shaped the land we walk today, the hike offered a chance to slow down, look a little closer, and discover a whole new side of a familiar preserve. A big thank you to Kim and everyone who joined us for a stroll filled with exploration, curiosity, and connection!

Some of the most meaningful things you can leave behind aren't things at all. They're the forests where future generations will wander. The streams that will continue to flow. The open spaces where wildlife will find a home, and communities will find connection.

During National Estate Planning Awareness Week, we're celebrating the many ways you can create a lasting legacy for the people and places we love. By including Westchester Land Trust in your will or estate plans, you can help ensure that the land, water, and natural spaces that make our region special remain protected for generations to come.

We're excited to share that WLT was awarded two grants through New York State's Conservation Partnership Program, supporting our work to protect the places you love and care for them for generations to come.

One grant will support the protection and stewardship of Lodestone Preserve, our largest land acquisition to date, while the other will help strengthen the technology and systems behind our conservation work.

We're grateful to the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the Land Trust Alliance for investing in this important work!

Thank you to everyone who joined us last week at Maple Grove Farm for The Autumn Party—and to the incredible community of sponsors, host committee members, auction donors, vendors, volunteers, and friends who made the evening possible.

From wood-fired pizza from Grigg Street Pizza and live reggae from Rho & The Nomads, to delicious bites from Chef Norman, lawn games, local flavors, and a sold out silent auction, it was such a joy to gather together in celebration of the land we love and the people who help protect it.

We’re so grateful to everyone who showed up, pitched in, raised a glass, placed a bid, and helped make The Autumn Party one to remember🍂

✨Relive the evening! We’ve posted the full photo gallery on our website—head to https://loom.ly/_J22txo to take a look.

Due to this weekend's stormy weather, our Geology Hike at Westchester Wilderness Walk / Zofnass Family Preserve has been rescheduled to Saturday, October 10. And our Pollinator Pop-Up event scheduled for this Sunday at Stuart's Fruit Farm has been cancelled.

Please use caution when going outdoors during inclement weather and consider postponing hikes if conditions are unsafe.

A great party can do a lot of good. At The Autumn Party, we’re celebrating the farms, farmers, and local food systems that help make our region such a special place to live✨

We’ll feature friends and partners from DIG Farm, Stuart's Fruit Farm, Ryder Farm, Tiny Hearts Flower Farm, and more, bringing some of the people and places behind our local agricultural community right to Maple Grove Farm.

It’s all part of an evening celebrating the landscapes that sustain us—farms that feed our communities, forests that clean our air, meadows alive with wildlife, and land that helps safeguard our drinking water. We think that’s worth raising a glass to. 🥂

Join us September 24 from 5:30–8PM at Maple Grove Farm. Get your tickets at https://loom.ly/mkEVcF8

🍄✨Need proof that conservation easement monitoring sometimes involves entering a tiny moss-covered fairy realm? Program Manager Kim captured this incredible assortment of fungi while helping with a recent monitoring visit in Pound Ridge...and you know we couldn’t keep these photos to ourselves!

DYK: Mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of much larger fungal networks hidden beneath the forest floor, quietly helping break down organic matter and cycle nutrients throughout the ecosystem.

Swipe through for a little mushroom magic🧚
