Seed Sower is adding six full-time positions across our recovery housing, peer support, and grant operations.

Hiring now — Residential Peer Recovery Support Specialist, Montgomery
This one is urgent. Our Montgomery home serves pregnant and parenting women in recovery, and we need someone in this seat within 2 weeks. Note: This position requires overnights. If you're a certified peer or eligible to become one, apply today.

Starting in October:

1. Residential PRSS — Dawson (Requires overnights)
2. Residential PRSS — Montgomery (Requires overnights)
3. PRSS, Community-Based Services — funded through our new SAMHSA Building Communities of Recovery grant, supporting peer services across our ten-county southern WV footprint
4. Lead PRSS — Adult Peer Center — leading our new drop-in center for adults in Raleigh and surrounding counties
5. Grants and Data Collection Specialist — managing reporting and data across our funded programs

All positions are full time.

TRANSPORTATION.

Since we started tracking in 2024, Seed Sower's transportation team has driven 1,394,700 miles.

That's 56 trips around the Earth.

The full picture:
🚗 63,231 trips completed
👥 1,826 unduplicated riders
🛣️ 1,394,700 miles driven
🏥 665 Trips to residential treatment facilities

And the need keeps growing:
2024 — 13,952 trips
2025 — 27,763 trips
2026 — 21,516 trips through July, already on pace to pass last year by over 8,000 trips!

Our average trip is 22 miles. Nearly 4,000 of them ran over 50 miles — because in southern West Virginia, the help you need is rarely close by.

For our Jobs & Hope participants alone, we've provided 40,337 rides to 170 participants across 42 West Virginia cities. That's 876,840 miles of people showing up for their own futures.

Behind every number is somebody getting to treatment, to a doctor, to work, to court. Transportation isn't a side service — it's what makes everything else possible. And it is made possible by a dedicated, tireless team of professionals committed to providing pathways to a secure, hopeful future.

Bill Stauffer on a pattern I watch play out in West Virginia every week. Two passages struck me:

"The private sector elements of the field were focused on expanding admissions, not improving outcomes. Efforts to professionalize and legitimize the field locked out the very people most eager to do the work."

"We shifted away from recover as the prize of our efforts and focused instead on reduction of overdose deaths, a pathology measure that sells people short as we fail to invest in their inherent capacity. Short-term band aids that failed to bridge to the healing properties of community."

How do those strike you?

While we can and should work to reduce overdose deaths — keeping people alive so they have a chance at recovery — we should also be "investing in people's inherent capacity" and seeing them as a potential strength rather than a burden.

We have to disrupt the treatment-discharge-treatment conveyor belt. I watch it happen here. Someone completes a program, does the work, and walks out into the same county with no recovery housing bed open, nobody to call, and no community waiting on the other side. A few weeks later they're back in the same admission line — or they're not, and we count them in a different number.

That means putting real effort, legislative attention, and public awareness behind community-based recovery systems — not as a follow-on to treatment, but as a partner with it.
