💜 RECOVERY CHAMPION SPOTLIGHT 💜

Kody Burns
📍 Hillsboro, WV

Imagine making one of the hardest decisions of your life.

You've finally decided to go to treatment.

You're scared, overwhelmed and you don't know what comes next.

And then reality hits.....you don't have a ride.

That's where people like Kody step in.

When someone finally says, "I'm ready for help," there isn't always a friend, family member, or reliable ride waiting.

As a transporter for Seed Sower, Kody spends his days helping people get to treatment because he understands something many people don't.

💜 Recovery can't happen if people can't access it.

We often celebrate the big moments in recovery; Kody is helping make those moments possible in the first place.

When asked what he'd tell someone struggling right now:

"I'm here for you. I will support you in every way possible. One day at a time. Trust the process."

That's the kind of person you want in your corner.

And that's exactly why Kody is this week's Recovery Champion. 👏

Every Recovery Champion gets the chance to recognize organizations making a difference.

This week, Kody chose:

💜 SEED SOWER, INC.

💜 Wise Path Recovery Centers

For organizations serving individuals with substance use and mental health needs, long-term financial sustainability can be an ongoing challenge. This upcoming free webinar hosted by The Fletcher Group may be of interest.

“Beyond the Grant: Braided Funding Strategies for Nonprofits” will explore practical approaches to moving beyond restricted grant funding by integrating public funding, earned revenue, strategic partnerships, and philanthropy into a more sustainable financial framework.

Seed Sower Executive Director Jay Phillips will lead the program, discussing structural challenges that contribute to nonprofit instability while sharing how recovery-focused organizations can align diverse revenue streams — including Medicaid reimbursement, transportation billing, workforce partnerships, and philanthropic investment — to strengthen operations and expand services over time.

Drawing from Seed Sower’s experience building a recovery ecosystem in southern West Virginia, the webinar will also explore how organizations can use data, outcomes, and service integration to support long-term sustainability and growth.

The Fletcher Group is nationally recognized for its work helping communities build stronger recovery ecosystems, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this conversation.

The webinar is free, though advance registration is required.

The research on this is pretty clear. Addiction, like diabetes, isn’t “cured”. It’s managed. That doesn’t happen on a make-believe schedule. Like any chronic, relapsing medical condition it’s complex, multi-faceted, and doesn’t go away just because your insurance stopped paying.

A lot of people think the biggest problem is getting people INTO treatment.

You all told us a different story.

You talked about getting help and then losing support too soon. About insurance deciding when someone is “done” recovering. About youth having almost no options. About people getting passed around systems that were supposed to help them.

And maybe the hardest part?

A lot of people genuinely WANT recovery, but they’re being pushed through systems that were never built for long-term healing in the first place.

Recovery isn’t a 30-day fix.
It isn’t one-size-fits-all.
And people are not failures because they need more support than the system is willing to give them.

That’s not a recovery problem.
That’s a systems problem.

🗣 What do you think WV is missing most when it comes to treatment and long-term support?
