COMING SOON… Extreme Makeover: Kitty Edition!

We've been busy making some BIG changes here at Love and Care Kitten Adoption!

We're currently modifying our rescue rooms to improve safety, cleanliness, and sanitization, while making sure our little residents still have the cozy, fun, and enriching spaces they deserve!

Once everything is finished, we'll be sharing a FULL video walkthrough of all the changes!

But I just couldn't resist giving you a little sneak peek!

These are pictures from our Jungle Room 🌿 and Sunshine Room ☀️, where I've been building something ridiculously adorable…

CAT-SIZED LIVING ROOMS!

And yes… they even have their very own little fireplaces!

Here's the fun part! Rather than spending precious rescue funds on fancy decorations, I donated my own electric fireplaces from home since we hardly ever use them. I've also been hunting down supplies and furnishings on Facebook Marketplace, finding creative and affordable ways to transform our rooms without breaking the rescue's budget!

A little creativity, some elbow grease, and a whole lot of love can go a LONG way!

Tonight, I checked the cameras and caught our little residents hanging out by their fireplaces, enjoying a cozy evening in their tiny living rooms!

I. CAN'T. HANDLE. THE. CUTENESS.

Apparently, our rescue kitties have decided they're no longer living in a shelter. They're living in luxury apartments, complete with fireplaces, cozy furnishings, and room service!

There's still plenty of work to do, but seeing them enjoying their new spaces makes every hour of hard work worth it.

This is the part of rescue that never gets easier.

We fought so hard for you, sweet Mayhem. For a week, we celebrated every tiny improvement and held onto so much hope. Last night, despite everything, your little body just couldn’t fight anymore.

I’m so sorry we couldn’t save you. But you left this world warm, safe, and so incredibly loved. You mattered. Your little life mattered.

There’s also a part of rescue after the goodbye that people rarely talk about: deciding what to do with their little bodies. Cremation, even communal cremation, can cost a rescue over $120 to 150 for a single tiny kitten. When you care for and sometimes lose as many animals as rescues do, those costs add up quickly.

It can feel horribly wrong to have to think about money while you’re grieving an animal you just fought so hard to save. But this is one of the difficult realities of rescue, and I wanted to be open about it because the heartbreaking parts happen behind the scenes, too.

No matter what happens to their bodies afterward, they are never “just a kitten” to us. They were ours. They were loved. And they mattered.

Rest easy, sweet Mayhem.

Ok! Tonight's training was, "Teaching Kittens That Dogs Can Be Friends."

And their instructor?

My darling dog Miggs!

This is why we take socialization so seriously.

Today the kittens got to spend some time with my sweet dog, Miggs!

Introductions like this are something we do slowly and intentionally over time. We never want to overwhelm our kittens or force an interaction. Instead, we give them safe, positive experiences and let their confidence build at their own pace.

And THIS was the result.

Their first real interaction with Miggs was AMAZING! There was no hiding, no panicking, and no terrified little kittens trying to escape. Instead, we got curious little faces, cautious investigating…and then PLAYING!

But there’s something extra special about Miggs being the one to help them.

Miggs was an orphan himself.

Six years ago, he came into our family as a foster…and then became an official foster fail. And apparently he never forgot where he came from, because Miggs has spent the years since becoming quite the little orphan advocate himself.

He has helped love and welcome countless kittens, cats, puppies, dogs, and even a ferret!

It’s incredibly important to us that our kittens learn to be comfortable around all kinds of beings, including dogs. We don't know exactly what their lives will look like after adoption. Their future home may have dogs, children, visitors, strange noises, or experiences they've never encountered before.

The more safe, positive experiences we can give them while they're with us, the more prepared they are for any loving home that may be waiting for them, and the better chance they have of being successful in that home for life.

Our goal isn't simply to raise healthy kittens and find them homes. We want to raise confident, resilient, well-socialized little companions who are ready to become part of a family.

And there’s something pretty beautiful about watching a former orphan help teach today's little orphans that the world, and even the big furry creatures in it, can be safe.
