Today, we honor Juneteenth, a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice.

At the Family Peace Center, we recognize that Black survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and other forms of violence often face unique barriers when seeking safety and support. Systemic inequities can make it harder to access services, be believed, and find pathways to healing.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, we recommit ourselves to creating a community where every survivor is seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

A huge thank you to the wonderful residents at MorningStar Senior Living of Hillsboro for spending their time and creativity assembling “Busy Bags” for the children and teens who visit the Family Peace Center this summer. 💜

Many of the young people we meet are navigating difficult and traumatic circumstances. These thoughtfully packed bags, filled with crafts, activities, journals, books, and other engaging items, provide comfort, distraction, and opportunities for creativity during challenging moments.

We are so grateful for community partners like MorningStar who help us care for survivors of all ages. Your kindness will make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children and teens we serve this summer.

This weekend, the Family Peace Center was honored to be part of Pride in Hillsboro! 🌈

We believe everyone deserves safety, support, and a community where they are seen, valued, and respected. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, shared your stories, asked questions, and learned more about our services.

We are proud to stand alongside our LGBTQ+ community and remain committed to creating pathways to safety, healing, and hope for all.
Happy Pride! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

The Sales Department at Morningstar Senior Living of Hillsboro is hosting a fundraiser in support of the Family Peace Center (FPC), and they are collecting donations for thoughtfully curated “busy bags.”
These busy bags are meant to offer comfort, distraction, and a sense of care during difficult moments for children and youth ages newborn through 18.

We are looking for age-appropriate items such as:

Newborn to toddler: soft sensory toys, teething toys, board books, plush toys

Early childhood: coloring books, crayons, stickers, simple puzzles, small stuffed animals

School age: activity books, journals, fidget toys, card games, craft kits, stress balls

Teens: journals, sketchbooks, pens, adult coloring books, self-care items, fidgets, headphones or earbuds

Every item helps create a moment of calm and comfort for someone who may really need it.

Donations can be dropped off at Morningstar Senior Living of Hillsboro. Please ask for Haylee when you arrive.

Thank you for helping us show up for our community in such a meaningful way.

Thursday was more than a grand opening.

It was the visible proof of what can happen when an entire community decides to show up for one another.

The Family Peace Center was built by people who refused to accept that survivors should have to navigate violence, trauma, and healing alone. It was built by partners willing to work differently. By donors who believed in a vision before it existed. By volunteers, staff, survivors, elected officials, advocates, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and community members who kept saying yes, over and over again.

Thursday, all of that love filled the building.

We saw people walk through these doors and immediately understand:
This place was built for them.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us, supported us, believed in us, donated to us, advocated for us, and carried this vision forward over the years.

This center belongs to the community.

And more importantly, it belongs to every survivor who deserves safety, healing, hope, and peace.

We are so deeply grateful to be building this future together. 💜

https://www.fpcwc.org/additional-resources

The recent CNN reporting on what is being called a “rape academy” is horrifying, but it is not shocking.

Because this is what has been happening, the difference is the spotlight.

Violence is rooted in a desire for power and control.
When someone believes they have the right to control another person’s body.
When autonomy and humanity is ignored.
When harm is normalized, taught, and even encouraged.

At our center, we see the impact of this every single day, and we refuse to look away.

Because this is not just something happening “out there.”
This is about culture.
This is about what is being taught, reinforced, and allowed to grow in silence.
And the part that should stop all of us in our tracks: our kids have access to this world.

This story shines a spotlight on an environment where violence can be learned, shared, and normalized with the click of a button.

We cannot be passive.

We have to talk to our children.
We have to challenge beliefs about power and control.
We have to interrupt harm when we see it.
And we have to believe survivors—every single time.

Not when it’s convenient. Not when it’s proven beyond doubt. Every time.

Because safety can’t begin until this cycle is interrupted.

We all have a role in this, creating a safe community is not someone else’s job, it is ours.

If you don’t know where to start, start here:
Our community has a Start By Believing toolkit available in the link in our bio or on our website
https://www.fpcwc.org/additional-resources

And believing survivors is only the start. We can no longer afford to only take an active role once hard has already happened.

We can prevent this.
