A tree can be a home and a forest can be a school, but raised in the wilds of 90’s Portland, Vin must first learn to be a child.

Set in the nostalgia of 1990’s Portland and the timeless beauty of the Oregon woods, we follow charismatic Melvin Shambry, a 12-year-old navigating a childhood shaped by instability, homelessness, and limited access to opportunity.

When Melvin is introduced to an outdoor education program, time in nature and the presence of caring adults begin to shift his sense of possibility. Told with restraint and rooted in lived experience, Outdoor School explores how access, mentorship, and community can quietly alter the course of a young person’s life.

A transformative true story about the search for shelter and the power of being seen.

Doors open at 6PM

World-renowned clarinetist and CMNW Artistic Director Emeritus David Shifrin leads an incredible concert of soaring clarinet favorites. The evening begins with Mozart’s dazzling Clarinet Quintet, a magical display of woodwind virtuosity in the hands of one of the world’s greatest aficionados of the instrument. Equally mesmerizing is Astor Piazzolla’s Le Grand Tango, embodying all the passion and rhythm of Argentina.

These delightful works are a prelude to one of the most iconic American clarinet and piano masterworks ever written—George Gershwin’s jazzy Rhapsody in Blue. Don’t miss Alistair Coleman’s special chamber arrangement of Gershwin’s most famous piece featuring the charismatic Cliburn finalist and Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient pianist Clayton Stephenson.

The Patricia Reser Center for the Arts ("The Reser") proudly announces its 2026–27 Reser Presents season — our most culturally expansive yet, and a heartfelt thank-you to every audience member, donor, artist, and neighbor who has helped shape this place. Rooted in our mission to foster joy, connection, and understanding, this anniversary season brings voices and traditions from across the globe to our stage.

The Reser has become far more than a performance venue. More than 150 local nonprofits have performed here, generating over $2 million in ticket sales for causes that matter to our community. Our free Art Gallery has earned critical acclaim. Youth and family programming has reached nearly 20,000 young people. And through it all, our doors have remained open to the full diversity of the Pacific Northwest.

This season, we raise the curtain on our next chapter, with gratitude, with ambition, and with you.

Few things in our fractured world bring us together quite like music, connecting us with our shared humanity across borders and time. Premiered by Clara Schumann in 1861 and famous for its fiery “Rondo alla Zingarese” finale, Brahms’s youthful and exuberant Piano Quartet in G Minor transports us to both a young Brahms (he was just 23 when he started composing it) and to Hungary with its folk inspiration. Two soaring solo works by Austrian American composer Fritz Kreisler magically take us to Vienna in the hands of virtuoso violinist and CMNW Protégé Alumnus Claire Wells. This program even spans the mightiest oceans with a new CMNW-commissioned premiere by Donghoon Shin, whose music encompasses influences of both his Korean heritage and his London home. Don’t miss this U.S. premiere featuring renowned mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano.
