Under the direction of Stephen Galván and Dr. Jeffrey Williams, ISing Choir and the Northwest Trombone Collective will present a program influenced by Eastern and Western musical traditions that weaves a tapestry of light through the season of darkness.
Highlights include Dan Forrest’s “Light Beyond Shadow,” John Rutter’s “Candlelight Carol,” Ola Gjeilo’s “Luminous Night of the Soul,” and Morten Lauridsen’s “O Nata Lux.” Dan Miller on organ, Yvonne Yang on piano and the Northwest Trombone Collective are joining forces to create a unique musicalexperience for the season. The program also includes Stephen Galván’s “Daw” (Light), a musical exploration of Zoroastrian, Persian, Arab, Judaic, German and Latin cultural styles.
Concerts will be held on Friday, December 11 at 7:30pm as well as Saturday, December 12 and Sunday, December 13 at 3:00pm, all at Cedar Hills United Church of Christ in Beaverton. Tickets are available on the choir's web site www.isingchoir.org for $15. Ticket proceeds will be used to offset costs for production and use of the facility.
ISing’s mission is to share innovative and exceptional choral music while supporting local non-profit organizations. Since its founding in 2005, the choir has raised $522,053 for worthy causes. ISing performs the finest that choral music has to offer and increases public awareness of non-profits that are making a positive impact in our community. In keeping with ISing’s mission, the choir will be accepting separate donations (cash, check or credit card) to support this season’s beneficiary, JSIR.
JSIR — meaning bridge in Arabic — is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families who have fled genocide and unimaginable hardship and are now rebuilding their lives in Oregon. Many of these families are survivors of violence, displacement, and loss, arriving with little more than hope for safety, stability, and a chance to heal.
Founded by John Ohnstad the Northwest Trombone Collective comprises talented performers from prestigious orchestras and ensembles in the Pacific Northwest. Their mission is to showcase the full potential of the trombonethrough exceptional and impactful performances.
This concert series is made possible through grants from the James F and Marion L Miller Foundation, the Oregon Community Foundation-Ronni Lacroute Fund, the Cultural Coalition of Washington County, the Oregon Cultural Trust, the City of Beaverton Arts Program and the Oregon Arts Commission.
