FOUNDER’S DAY EVENTS

REASON WE CELEBRATE FOUNDER’S DAY EVERY YEAR:
On May 2, 1843, 52 men at Champoeg Voted to form the first U.S. provisional Government west of the Rocky Mountains. In 1901 the sole survivor of that vote and the descendants of the 52 men, gathered for a dedication of to those actions. And we continue to celebrate Founders’ Day every year at Champoeg State Park.

Events Happening on May 2, 2026

Champoeg Heritage Center – At the Pavilion in the State Park Picnic Area.
May 2 (1:00 PM) Founders’ Day Program and Ringing of the bell for the 52 men who said yes. State Park entrance fee is: $10.00

Newell Pioneer Village - Dr. Newell was one of the signers of the Provisional Government.
May 2 (2:00 – 4:00) – Founders’ Day Chili Cook-off Cost for the Meal is: $5.00

It would be great to see many DAR members at this event. Both Jen Torres and myself are participating in the event at the Pavilion in Champoeg State Park.
