On August 17, National Nonprofit Day (NND) recognizes the goals and positive impacts nonprofits have on communities and the world.



Somewhere a volunteer reads to school children. At the same time, a patient receives steady medication. A lawyer provides legal services for low-income individuals. A lost soul’s life is remembered with dignity, thanks to a nonprofit funeral home. Elsewhere, a first-time homebuyer moves into his own home. NND reminds us that each of these scenes is possible thanks to the nonprofit sector. It’s the result of the work performed by capable people and organizations.

Through nonprofits, awareness, research, and aid reach the people who need it most. Nonprofits also generate tremendous benefits to their surrounding communities and the broader world.

For example, following the recent U.S. recession in 2012, the nonprofit sector provided 5.4% of the nation’s entire GDP (gross domestic product), or $887.3 billion. Non-profits continuously employing nurses, web developers, lawyers, computer engineers, and more (sources: John Hopkins and Tactical Philanthropy Advisors reports).

We're wrapping up the weekend with a nostalgic throwback to 1999! 🎉

Back then, the Bink-A-Thons were just starting to gain momentum, bringing together amazing volunteers from all corners to create blankets for those in need. Fast forward 27 years, and these incredible events are still going strong!

For 30 years, Binky Patrol has been committed to providing warmth and comfort to children in need. Whether it’s through large Bink-A-Thons or individuals crafting blankets at home, every effort contributes to supporting the youngest members of our communities.

THE BOX VS WHAT’S INSIDE

Spokane has been hit with horrific and devastating fires, wiping out neighborhoods. We are collecting and donating handmade blankets to send to our neighbors in the north - if you have some spare time, some yarn, and a packing slip please consider making blankets for these children.

It feels too soon since we reached out for California, and now entire communities in Spokane, WA are facing devastation—without homes, belongings, and filled with fear. The fires are still raging, and we are asking any and all volunteers to step forward and help.

Here’s how you can make a difference:

1. Make blankets and send them to Susan Finch (PO Box 652, Beaverton, OR, 97075).
2. Ship blankets directly to Spokane. DM us for the address to avoid overwhelming one location.
Pro tip: save money by using pirateship.com for slower shipping.
3. Please FORWARD this message to your friends and chapters!
4. Donate through Victory Faith at https://victoryfaith.org and specify it’s for the fire victims.

✨ Time Capsule Throwback to 1998! ✨ Check out these amazing photos of our dedicated volunteers in action! Binky Patrol’s commitment to making a difference shines bright, especially thanks to the incredible students and teachers from St. Anne's School in Laguna Niguel. Many of these young heroes even made it into local newspapers back then! 📸

Kids aged 7-13 came together to decorate panels, pin fabric, and tie blankets, proving that when we join forces, we can create warmth and comfort for those in need. ❤️

A few weeks ago, the @210637589130355 chapter held their annual "Barb's Binky Night." 💖 This special event honors a dear friend of Jeanne's, whose nephew passed away 6 years ago. In his memory, the group made an incredible 103 blankets in just under 3 hours! 🙌

These beautiful blankets were donated to and Smilow Cancer Hospital to support children and teenagers receiving care. Thank you to all the amazing volunteers for spreading love and comfort! 🌟 We hope these blankets provide warmth and security to those in treatment.
