How Your Donations Make a Difference for Veterans

Your generosity makes a real difference in the lives of veterans and their families! On Tuesday, Rod Federwisch, a board member of the SGT Watts Veterans Foundation, presented a $10,000 donation to Candice Gracik, Director of the Salvation Army Veterans & Family Services. The donation was made possible through the proceeds from our August motorcycle raffle.

The Salvation Army Veterans & Family Services provides housing for 120 veterans and their families, helping them build a stronger, more stable future. Their mission is to help every veteran transition to permanent employment and support their families on the path to homeownership.

This is the power of your support. Every raffle ticket purchased and every donation made helps us give back to those who have given so much for our country. Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of veterans and their families!

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is an important time to recognize and support veterans and their families who may be affected by domestic violence. Every family deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported. By raising awareness, encouraging open conversations, and connecting families with trusted resources, we can help break the cycle of violence and strengthen the well-being of veterans, their partners, and their children.

Mental Health Awareness Week, October 4–10, is an opportunity to recognize the importance of mental health and remind veterans that they are not alone. Veterans may face unique challenges related to service, transition, stress, or loss. This week, let’s encourage open conversations, reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, and connect veterans and their families with the support and resources they need to thrive.

Dear Friends and Supporters,
As we enter the fall season, we reflect on a year that tested our hearts and strengthened our resolve. We said goodbye to Ron Gibson, our founding President, and marked five years since Steve Watts’ passing. Through it all, you showed up, again and again, to make sure no veteran ever stands alone.
This year’s accomplishments belong to you. Riders filled the roads for our Ride and Roll in June, and in August, hundreds gathered at Steelhead Harley-Davidson for the 2026 Motorcycle Raffle. Throughout the year, our dedicated volunteers attended events, set up tents, sold tickets, sewed quilts, and generously gave countless hours of their time, while our donors, sponsors, and supporters went above and beyond to help make it all possible. To each of you, we thank you!
As we enter the giving season, the Board remains focused on the organizations that serve our veterans every day:
• Northwest Battle Buddies provides trained service dogs to help veterans overcome PTSD.
• Returning Veterans Project connects post-9/11 veterans and families with free, confidential health services.
• Fort Kennedy provides food, clothing, and resources to homeless and low-income veterans.
• The Salvation Army Veterans and Family Center offers transitional housing and case management to help veterans become self-sufficient.
• The Oregon Veterans Homes in The Dalles and Lebanon care for aged and disabled veterans.
• Honor Flight Northwest Oregon flies veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials built in their honor.
Your donations and volunteerism keep this good work going.

Labor Day is an opportunity to recognize the hard work and dedication of veterans who continue to serve their communities through their careers and professions after military service. The leadership, discipline, and commitment they developed while serving our country make lasting contributions to workplaces across the nation. As we celebrate the American workforce, we also honor the sacrifices and achievements of working veterans and thank them for their continued service.

September brings gratitude as we reflect on the 2026 SGT Watts Motorcycle Raffle, held on August 22nd at Steelhead Harley-Davidson. We sold 550 tickets, raising vital funds for veteran programs in the Pacific Northwest. A heartfelt thanks to our sponsor, Erik Paulson, and the Steelhead team, along with our partners at Endurium Advisors and all our dedicated volunteers and supporters who contributed their time and money. A special thanks goes to the veterans organizations that joined us: Fort Kennedy, Northwest Battle Buddies, the Salvation Army Veterans Family Center, and Returning Veterans Foundation.

Before the drawing, we took a moment to honor Ron Gibson, our founding board member and first President, with a flag ceremony presented by the American Legion Honor Guard.

Congratulations to our winners:
- Grand Prize: Randy Jacoy (2025 Limited Edition Gray Ghost Fat Boy)
- 2nd Place: Andre Rindel (65" LED Smart TV)
- 3rd Place: Joshua Gray ($500 Steelhead Gift Card)
- $100 gift cards: Damian Alexandroni, Daryl McCoy, Bruce Westerlund, Ray Underwood

Looking forward to 2027, we’re excited to reveal a custom-painted 2026 Low Rider ST as our featured prize. Stay tuned for details on the “Big Reveal”.

August 22nd also marked the 5th anniversary of Steve Watts’ passing. Since then, we’ve raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars for our mission. Thank you for being supportive in ensuring no veteran stands alone.

During National Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, we honor our veterans by raising awareness about the importance of mental health, hope, and connection. Many veterans face unique challenges after their military service, and reaching out with compassion, support, and understanding can make a meaningful difference. Together, we can help reduce stigma, encourage those in need to seek assistance, and remind every veteran that they are valued, respected, and never alone.
