Introducing our board and people in new positions on the board -My name is Michelle Ulgasan but you can all call me “Teacher Mitch”. I am a Montessori Lead Teacher in the 3-6 classroom. I am also a faculty of TEP Philippines and Vietnam where aside from being one of the instructors, I also serve as the Field Supervisor. My involvement in the
Board started in 2018 when I volunteered to work in the Promotional and Social Media Committee. I was actively involved in sharing about the MIA schools’ activities and celebrations in my country, the Philippines.
The following year I became part of the Board of Trustees and was elected as the Recording Secretary. I made sure that I was present in each and every meeting where I was in charge of taking down the minutes. In addition, I also volunteered to chair the Certification Review Committee. My work there involved upholding our standards and assuring the quality of the programs offered in different TEPs as well as verifying the Adult Learners works before certifying them.
There were several proposals made in the Procedures and Guidelines last year in response to the concerns and suggestions of our Program Directors, Adult Learners, and the pandemic. It was a tough work but I was grateful that through this position I got to know more about our organization. This year, I was elected as the Vice President, along with continuing as the Recording Secretary. I feel honored to the trust given to me to continue serving MIA. Along with this role, I will continue to chair the Certification Review committee. I am here to be of service to the Board and all the members. I am looking forward to a better year for all of us. Together, we’ll rise up from the challenges the pandemic has brought in each one of us.
