Pile of Puppies

Pile of Puppies Pile of Puppies is a non-profit that creates joy experiences for chronically ill children.

Pile of Puppies is a 501(c)(3) that focuses on bringing litters of puppies (at no cost) to children who have been challenged physically by chronic illnesses. The purpose is to bring joy to families that have been dealing with the day to day challenges of helping their child/children move through rough times. Participating responsible breeders are able to socialize their puppies and can give back to families in need of a little cheer.

The best part of a POP is piling the puppies on all the families. Don’t worry they all survived the pile! Thank you Ronald McDonald House Oregon for hosting! Thank You JJ Hospice Therapy Dog for taking the time to surround everyone with your Joy Bringers!

It truly takes a village to keep Pile of Puppies running for over ten years. Thank you to everybody who donated to Pile of Puppies through Season of Giving.

Thank you The Oregonian for choosing us as one of your featured nonprofits and for presenting us our donation check from all who donated.

Thank you to every single person who has donated time, money and resources. Thank you JJ Hospice Therapy Dog and to all who drive anywhere from 1-5 hours just to bring their puppies to our POP families, you are all amazing! We exist because of your generosity and couldn’t do it without you. Thank you Ronald McDonald House Oregon for partnering with us for 10 years as well!

Another wonderful afternoon at We love being able to bring puppies to visit with the families staying there. The smiles, laughter, and exclamations of “This is amazing!” were such sweet reminders that sometimes the simplest things, like cuddling a puppy, can make everything feel just a little bit lighter.
Thank you to RMH for inviting us, and to the families and staff who stopped by and shared in all the puppy-powered happiness.
A huge shout-out to for sharing her incredible golden retriever puppies, and to for capturing it all so beautifully with her photography!

Meet Kylie — an amazing 15-year-old artist and athlete. She loves ceramics and swimming (backstroke and butterfly are her favorites!) and she’s also a big fan of puppies.

We recently had the honor of surrounding her with some of the cutest golden retriever puppies ever, and her gentleness was the perfect match for their playful energy.

The puppies brought happy chaos, and Kylie joined right in. The smiles, laughter, and puppy kisses offered a break from the hard stuff. It felt like good medicine.

A big thank you to Stephanie Schmidt Photography for her beautiful photos and Marcy Dirkx-Baker for her ridiculously adorable puppies. It takes a village.

Bring together an adorable, wise-beyond-her-years-two-year old, some of the kindest firefighters around and some ridiculously cute golden retriever puppies and you just might have the recipe for magic.

Magic that allowed the joy to find exactly the people who needed it the most. A powerful reminder that it is not just kids who could use some playtime and a few cuddles.

A huge shout out to Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue for hosting this POP and to the many Pile of Puppy volunteers who helped make this happen! And to JJ Hospice Therapy Dog for sharing her puppies - the secret ingredient!

It’s and we can’t help but think about the children we’ve seen over a decade who have passed away. What sitting with families who have lost a child has taught us is this:

💫Every moment is a gift

💫Time is precious

💫Presence is powerful

We couldn’t be more proud of Holly, a beloved POP child who passed away seven years ago, and of her mama Heidi for using her pain for purpose through her book Love Is Everywhere. This season, we are deeply grateful that Heidi was able to see her daughter on the front cover of the The Oregonian. We’ve had the honor of witnessing Heidi sit with other families who are losing a child and surround them with a pile of puppies. These full-circle moments remind us that joy and pain can live together and that Joy Heals.

If you’re able, please consider donating to Pile of Puppies today. Your gift truly makes a difference for families when they need it most. 🐾💛

POP on the front page of the Oregonian’s Season of Giving.💫 We live for full-circle moments at Pile of Puppies. After sitting at the bedsides of dying and chronically ill children for over a decade, witnessing these moments still stops us in our tracks. 🤍

POP was with Holly and her family just days before she passed. Later, we had the honor of welcoming Heidi as a POP volunteer, where she sat with families whose children were in hospice. Heidi’s ability to hold space and bear witness in the hardest moments of a family’s life is a rare and sacred gift.

Thank you to everyone who donates and volunteers time and resources, it truly takes a village to create Pile of Puppies. Deep gratitude to Dina and Heidi for helping make POP even more welcoming to families facing severe health challenges. 🐾

If you want an incredible book that will move your heart, we highly recommend Heidi’s book, Love Is Everywhere. Grateful to be part of Holly and Heidi’s life journey.

Another wonderful afternoon at the Ronald McDonald House with families and puppies! The simple joy these puppies bring always feels miraculous, as the room fills with smiles and laughter. It reminds us that lightness and joy don’t have to be complicated—sometimes, all it takes is a few puppy kisses. Thank you to JJ Therapy Dog for bringing her amazing Golden Retriever puppies! And a huge shout out to for the beautiful photos. It really does take a village.
