Here at Family Promise of Greater Washington County, we know we can’t do this work alone. We can accomplish so much more when our community comes together to support families with minor children experiencing homelessness. 💜💙💛

Today, we want to celebrate one of the incredible collaborations that made a BIG difference in our Beaverton Shelter expansion.

IKEA partnered with us to help furnish and refurnish our entire Beaverton Shelter, including furnishing the new family rooms as we expand our capacity to welcome more families.

But they didn’t stop there. Their team also helped us move in, assemble, and set up the furniture throughout the shelter.

Seeing everything come together has been incredible and it’s a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when people and organizations come together with a shared purpose.

When we work together, the sky’s the limit. ✨

Washington County Community Comes Together to Expand Shelter for Families with Children

Here at Family Promise of Greater Washington County, we’re incredibly grateful for the community partners helping bring our Beaverton Shelter Expansion Project to life.

A heartfelt thank-you to and , for collaborating with us to create more safe, supportive shelter for families with children experiencing homelessness in Washington County.

Because of this incredible partnership, our Beaverton Shelter is expanding from 2 family rooms to 4, doubling the number of families we can welcome into shelter and giving more children and parents a safe place to land while they work toward permanent housing.

We now have a brand-new space for families to store their belongings while they are staying with us, as well as space for us to collect and store household donations for families. When a family moves into permanent housing, they can take those essential items with them, helping them fully furnish their new home and begin their next chapter with greater stability and dignity. 💜

This is what community collaboration looks like.

When we build together, we create more than physical space. We create safety. We create stability. We create opportunities for families to move forward. Most importantly, we help interrupt the cycle of homelessness so that children have the opportunity to experience something different.

🚨 We could use a few more helping hands tomorrow! 🚨

We’re in the final stretch of our Beaverton Shelter expansion, and we need a few extra volunteers tomorrow, Tuesday, August 11, from 9 AM–5 PM to help move the last pieces of furniture and make room for two new family rooms! 🏡💜

It shouldn’t take long with a few extra hands, and every bit of help gets us closer to the finish line!

Thursday July 9th, Amanda Briggs, Director of Programs, and Kayla Hendricks, Development and Outreach Coordinator at Family Promise of Greater Washington County, joined other homeless service providers from across Washington County at a community resource expo hosted at the Beaverton City Library.

The event brought together organizations dedicated to sharing resources, increasing awareness, and connecting neighbors with support. We are so grateful for the partnership of the City of Beaverton, the library, and the many community organizations working together to support families experiencing homelessness.

This is what community is all about: showing up, sharing resources, and making sure families know they are not alone.

🏡 A New Home, A New Beginning 💜

On July 16, Adriana, Cuactemo, and their seven children moved out of the Hillsboro Shelter and into their own apartment!

We are so happy for their family as they begin this exciting new chapter. While we celebrate this amazing accomplishment, we will miss having them as part of our shelter community. Their family brought so much joy to the shelter. You could often hear them singing together while they cooked, sharing laughter and creating moments that brightened everyone’s day.

Stories like this happen because of people who continue to show up for families.

Our volunteers, meal hosts, donors, community groups, and partners make these moments possible. The consistent support from our community provides families with encouragement, stability, and the resources they need to reach their goals.

Every meal shared, every volunteer hour given, every donation provided, and every act of kindness helps a family move one step closer to home.

Thank you for being part of this journey and helping families like Adriana and Cuactemo’s move from shelter to housing.

This Fourth of July, we’re reflecting on what independence truly means in our community.

For many families in Washington County, independence starts with something deeply foundational: a safe place to sleep, a stable routine for their children, and the support needed to take the next step forward.

At Family Promise of Greater Washington County, we walk alongside families with children as they move away from homelessness toward housing stability. Through shelter, prevention, and ongoing community support, families are building stability one step at a time, with dignity, care, and connection.

We are especially grateful for the volunteers who make this possible. From preparing meals to organizing donations, from leading volunteer teams to helping keep our spaces running, this work is powered by community.

If you’re looking for a way to be part of that impact, here are a few meaningful ways to get involved:

• Serve as a Shelter Support Coordinator and help lead and support a community group in caring for families
• Step into a Volunteer Shift Lead role during family move-ins/move-outs, donation events, or service projects

Kiora and her two sons have moved into permanent housing!

This week, they stepped into their own apartment and into a new chapter of stability, safety, and home.

Kiora has worked incredibly hard to reach this moment. Through a challenging season, she continued caring for her children and taking steady steps forward. We are grateful to have been part of their journey.

We also want to thank the community and everyone who stepped up along the way. Your support, time, and care helped make this moment possible for this family.

Moments like this matter because families should not have to go through difficult seasons alone. When community shows up and families have access to the right support, meaningful change becomes possible.

At our Beaverton Shelter, we’re moving through an important season of growth, one that will allow more families to find safety, stability, and space to breathe during some of life’s hardest moments.

Recently, our team and volunteers came together to carefully relocate all shelter and family supplies from the orange storage container to prepare the site for construction. That container now lives next door at Calvary Parkside Church , where shared space continues to support families through essentials like the Promise Pantry Clothing Closet and the Beaverton Buddies program in partnership with Beaverton School District.

As the site was cleared, volunteers alongside Clean It Up Mark https://www.cleanitupmark.com/(owned by Kelly Cowan), through support from the Home Building Foundation , helped prepare the shelter grounds with care and generosity, laying the foundation for what comes next.

We’re also grateful to share that a new office building has been delivered to the shelter site. This allows staff offices to move outside of the shelter building, creating space inside that will soon become new family rooms, ultimately doubling our capacity from 2 families to 4 families at a time.

And we need your help to finish this work.

We’re looking for volunteers to join us in the coming phases, helping with flooring, painting, decking, fencing, and other finishing touches that turn construction into home.
