Sport Day in Japan (October 13) is supposed to be a nationwide celebration to promote sport and an active lifestyle.

Yet, many girls, especially those with a disability aren’t able to share in the same joy. That’s why program’s like J Camp are being intentional in using wheelchair basketball to create those safe, inclusive and fun spaces for girls with a disability.

This way, they can not only participate, but have fun on Sport Day.

While girls in Japan, Haiti and Los Angeles 🇯🇵🇭🇹🇺🇸 may each face different barriers to sport, coaches from Play Academy-supported programs impact the girls and their communities through a variety of inclusive sports programming.

And when Play Academy coaches convened in Tokyo, Japan, for the summit to celebrate Play Academy's 5️⃣th🎉 anniversary, they left with a sense of appreciation and understanding that they are part of something bigger!🤩

日本🇯🇵では、6 歳から15 歳までの女の子がスポーツに参加する機会は男の子に比べ 20%少なく、スポーツをする場所やニーズに合った運動経験が得られにくいことなどが 原因で、15 歳までにスポーツをやめてしまう確率は女の子の方か2 倍近く高くなっています。

こうした課題に取り組むために、プレー・アカデミーは、2020年夏に日本国内での活動を開始しました🇯🇵

今回は、2024年に助成受給団体として首都圏で新たに追加された、 ジャンクベースボールクラブ（一般社団法人ジャンク野球団） ⚾️、 🏀、 東京スポーツクロスラボ ✨の3団体に注目👀

In Japan🇯🇵, girls between the ages of 6 and 15 are 20% less likely than boys to participate in sport, and girls are nearly twice as likely to drop out of sport by age 15, due to lack of access to sport programs that meet their needs.

To address these issues, Play Academy started its activities in Japan four years ago 🇯🇵

5月下旬、🇺🇸オレゴン州の Nike 本社でグローバルサミット「COACH THE DREAM Envisioning the Future of Youth Sport Coaching (参考和訳：コーチ・ザ・ドリーム〜子どものためのスポーツコーチングの将来を思い描く〜)」が開催され、「プレー・アカデミー with 大坂なおみ」を代表してLaureus シニアプログラムマネージャーの篠原果歩、.C.P.Japan1 代表理事の井上由惟子さんが参加しました📝そこでの経験と学びを帰国後、オンライン報告会を開催し、日本の指導者たちと共有しました👩‍💻
