this 1970s home got a rich, textured renovation by new zealand-based Material Creative®, bringing together moody interiors, sculptural details, and some seriously beautiful material choices. this home is proof that there’s no shortage of absolutely incredible design hiding right in our own backyard 🫢

one of the wildest homes I’ve seen 😵‍💫 every room somehow feels bolder than the last, yet it all works ❤️‍🔥

designed by french architect Armand Negroni as his own home in 1970, Villa Negroni was part of an experimental movement that challenged the idea of traditional rooms. instead, spaces were designed to flow into one another and adapt to a more “natural” way of human living. over 50 years later, it still feels surprisingly futuristic💡would you live here?

where do i even start with this one… architect nancy copley spent 37 years bringing her own home to life after falling in love with a 50-acre piece of land she described as “magic.” 💫 she taught herself stone masonry, built a 44-foot bluestone tower by hand, and even after losing her husband during construction, continued building the home herself

it’s hard not to admire the level of creativity, resilience, and conviction it took to see one vision through for nearly four decades 🥹 what an beautiful story of creative determination

every once in a while, you step into a home that feels entirely its own 🌟

after an attic fire, POLYMATH architectural studio transformed this house from the inside out ~ converting the attic into a primary retreat, creating a beautifully crafted kitchen with custom millwork and furniture by a family friend, and recladding the exterior in cedar shingles that give the home an entirely new presence. every detail reflects the creativity of its owners, making this one of those homes that feels as personal as it is timeless 💛 such an honor to photograph this beautiful project and collaborate with polymath and homeowners who poured so much of themselves into every corner!!

introducing the eyebrow house 😧 just north of mount tabor lies this unique beauty, a 1940’s cape cod home reimagined by architect Edgar Papazian. there’s a reason they call it the eyebrow house ~ curved walls, sweeping dormers, and an arched steel roof… every detail feels sculptural, from the bookcase staircase to the perfectly framed views of the garden beyond 🫧 I am thoroughly impressed w the design of this home, and (slightly) jealous of whoever snags it 🌟🌲

silvertop is a place that still feels futuristic nearly 70 years later 🫢 designed by john lautner in 1956, the home’s sweeping concrete shell was so ambitious that the construction stretched on for many years, leaving the original owner skeptical.

but when the home was finally completed years later, it became one of lautner’s greatest achievements ~ and a lasting icon of california modernism 💭⚖️

there’s something almost unreal about a house this yellow sitting quietly against the california landscape ☀️ it feels like sunshine became architecture

the edith & frank wyle house was designed by john rex in 1962 using all local materials after its owners purchased 3,000 acres near yosemite to build the secluded ranch they had always envisioned 💭

another incredible home documented by Open Space (and one i won’t be getting over anytime soon)

I’ll admit, I’m not entirely sure what i’m looking at…
but i know i like it.

angles, wood, and a kind of controlled chaos. designed in 1968 by Andrew Geller ~ often called the “architect of happiness” ~ this is the Antler House, tucked near Napeague Bay in East Hampton.

playful, strange, expressive… like the structure is thinking for itself. v cool 💌🌟

this one doesn’t read like a typical portland home 🖤
set in Mount Tabor, with a layout that feels intentionally fluid ~ where indoor and outdoor blur. the pool, greenhouse, and private corners intentional in their separation. this home clearly has stories, and it’s now waiting for new ones 🌟
