This year, a Charlevoix County Community Foundation Mini Grant helped bring the incredible sound crew Zoo Tunes to Beaver Island to work with our students on professional sound checks and performance preparation for our annual fundraiser.

Last year, C3F also supported us through an Arts & Culture Grant for the Ruby John Fiddle Residency and a Youth Needs Grant that helped cover costs associated with our Rock Band program.

Pictured here is Zoo Tunes working alongside our Ruby John Fiddlers and Rock Band students — programs made stronger through this continued support.

And as if that wasn’t enough community spirit, when Ruby John was sidelined with an injury and unable to perform with her students, C3F Youth Advisory Committee member Sophie McDonough stepped in to fill that role. Pictured behind the fiddle students, Sophie has been a role model in so many ways to these young fiddlers.

To the Charlevoix County Community Foundation: thank you for believing in rural arts education, in young people, and in the power of music to create opportunity and connection. Your investment continues to make a difference here on Beaver Island.

An additional thank you to Beaver Island Boat Company for covering the travel costs of the sound crew and to Lois & Kevin Stipp for donating their lodging. ❤️🎶

Two days later and we’re still soaking in the memories from the 5th Annual “Is Everybody Happy?” Party ❤️🎶

To the musicians, sound crew, photographers, volunteers, sponsors, donors, party attendees, and everyone in between… thank you. It takes a community to create a night like this, and because of you, our students experienced something special.

The evening was full of surprises. One minute it was fiddle students on stage, the next it was our Rock Band jumping into Wipe Out and later on our students being invited on stage by seasoned musicians. Where else in the world could this happen besides Beaver Island?

We also have to give a little grace to Mother Nature. The cooler weather quickly changed our plans for outdoor seating, and many of you rolled with crowded spaces and standing-room dining. Thank you for your flexibility and Beaver Island spirit.
