Oregon Public Broadcasting is spending time in Lake County next weekend to celebrate the region’s rural communities.

Join us for the Community Forum at PLAYA!

This gathering focuses on rural life and what locals would like to see reflected in Oregon’s public media coverage.

IN A LANDSCAPE is hosting three socials where locals can share their perspectives and life experiences with OPB CEO Rachel Smolkin. Under Smolkin’s leadership, OPB has worked to expand its presence in Eastern Oregon—hiring rural reporters and producers and organizing listening sessions to better understand key aspects of rural life. This partnership with IN A LANDSCAPE is a natural extension of their work: meeting communities where they are, witnessing the places they love.

The PLAYA IN A LANDSCAPE concert is just prior to this event and Lake County residents attend for free! Reach out to us for the discount code.

The city that never sleeps might finally sleep! 😴

The Dark Sky Protection Act is currently working its way through the state legislature in Albany, New York. This bill that is aimed at reducing the amount of artificial light between 11pm until 5am through out the entire state of New York. 🌙✨

Supporters say it could improve sleep, protect wildlife, and save energy. While critics worry about safety in darker streets, the bill does have exceptions for billboards, municipal and highway lights, airports and emergency entities. 🛣️🛬

If this bill passes, it will take effect in January 2028 and would be a huge step towards protecting our dark skies, biodiversity and reducing energy consumption.
