Autism and Intellectual Disability are not the same - though they can sometimes overlap!
Understanding the difference helps us better support each person's unique strengths, needs, and experiences. Autism is characterized by differences in social communication, behavior patterns, and sensory processing, while Intellectual Disability primarily affects cognitive functioning and everyday adaptive skills.
By learning how each is defined, we can move beyond misconceptions and foster greater understanding, inclusion, and support for individuals and families. Every person deserves to be recognized for who they are - not just their diagnosis.
