NCSAA Boys’ Varsity Basketball National Coach of the Year:
Ron Crandall (Houston Christian High School – Houston, TX)
It is with great pleasure that NCSAA announces that Ron Crandall has been selected as the 2025-26 NCSAA Boys’ Varsity Basketball National Coach of the Year.
Crandall has coached the Houston Christian boys’ team for nineteen years, leading this year’s team to an exceptional 35-1 record – the highest single-season win record in Houston Christian’s boys’ basketball school history. Their team capped this year off with a Southwest Preparatory Conference Championship victory, which was his team’s 5th championship in the past 9 years. Crandall also won the Texas Association Basketball Coach of the Year, adding to his collection of four COY awards in recent years. Throughout their season, their team studied the book “The 7 Commitments of A Great Team”, which helped to shape their play. At this point in his coaching career, Crandall holds a distinguished 570-232 record.
Houston Christian’s athletic department has this to say in recognition of Coach Crandall’s impact and involvement: “What truly distinguishes Coach Crandall is his impact beyond the court. His passion and love for the game are palpable, but more importantly, he is deeply committed to the development of his players. Throughout the summer, offseason, and preseason, I witnessed him intentionally invest in the hearts of his team. His players are well-coached not only in skill, but in character – consistently demonstrating sportsmanship in a Christ-centered manner while representing Houston Christian in a way that honors our namesake.”
NCSAA considers the National Coach of the Year awards to be the highest honor that we bestow each year. As a national organization of more than 550 member schools, we select only one National Coach of the Year in boys’ basketball each year, so our selection of Ron is a recognition of his deep commitment to Christ-centered athletics and impacting the lives of the kids that he coaches.
Congratulations and thank you, Ron, for a job well-done and the impact that you have had upon your community!
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as if working for the Lord, not for men...It is the Lord Christ you are serving." (Colossians 3:23-24)
