Today, The National Council of Negro Women, Inc.'s very own beloved late founder, Mary McLeod Bethune was highlighted during Capitol Conversations. Our National President, , was a special guest speaker on behalf of .

In 2018, the state of Florida passed legislation to give a statue of educator Mary McLeod Bethune to the Capitol. Today, we learned more about the 10th woman and the first African American to be honored in the National Statuary Hall Collection.

There are plans for a Mary Mcleod Bethune sculpture to replace a Confederate General in the National Statuary Hall in the US Capitol. Dr. Bethune will be the first African American figure to be honored with a monument in the National Statuary Hall in the US Capitol.

Capitol Conversations are live, interactive, virtual discussions about the U.S. Capitol. During Capitol Conversations, their staff discusses some of the U.S. Capitol’s historic spaces, artwork, artifacts and statues.

Registration Deadline Approaching! 🚨 The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) continues the R.E.A.C.H (Restore, Empower, Advocate, Commit and Honor) membership drive campaign by honoring the 146th Birthday of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune virtually on Saturday, July 10, 2021, 8:00 P.M., EST.

The goal of this Birthday Celebration is to raise awareness of Dr. Bethune’s legacy and the work of NCNW. Each of NCNW’s 310 sections across the U.S. is invited to join us virtually on July 10th, wear creative birthday hats, and learn more about the life and legacy of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune.
