Foster care and adoption - Buckner provides the training and resources needed to become a family to a child for a season through foster care or a forever family through domestic foster care or adoption. Children in these programs are most often referred through the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services due to experiencing abuse, neglect or abandonment. Call 409-866-0976 for more infor

mation about how you can change a child's life. Foster Youth Aging Out Services - Our support programs are provided for current and former youth in state foster care. The goal of the aging out program is to provide training, support and guidance to youth graduating from foster care that will enhance their ability to transition into independent living. The program helps clients find jobs, financial assistance, case management, counseling and mentors. Healthy Outcomes through Prevention and Early Support (HOPES) - Many of the most formative moments in a child's life happen in their first five years. That's why Buckner provides crucial parent educators for vulnerable families through Buckner HOPES. Through one-on-one sessions, parents learn best practices for raising children, setting the stage for young people to reach their God-given potential. For more information, call 409-200-2739. The Buckner Family and Youth Success (FAYS) program in Beaumont, formerly known as STAR, serves families with children age 6 to 17 living in these counties: Jefferson, Orange and Hardin. The Buckner FAYS program is funded through the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). Learn more about this free service or call 409-861-0582. Fatherhood EFFECT - Buckner offers the Fatherhood EFFECT program in Jefferson County. Fatherhood EFFECT is a program that empowers and educates dads so they intentionally engage in their children’s lives and help strengthen their families. Fatherhood EFFECT supports the belief that fathers play a critical role in the development, growth and self-confidence in their children. Buckner offers a blend of 24/7 Dad® and Parents as Teachers® curriculum for fathers (biological, stepparent, adoptive, grandparent, guardian) of a child 17 or younger. In Texas, more than 1,000 youth age out of foster care each year.

When youth age out of the foster care system between 18 to 23 years old, they are vulnerable to addiction, human trafficking and homelessness. With little support, former foster youth are left to navigate from adolescence to adulthood on their own.

For National Youth Aging Out Day, you can help by fostering or adopting a teen through Waiting Texas Children and providing mentorship for youth who may not have a positive person in their life.

This year, committee members have introduced six bills to modernize the John H. Chafee Foster Care Program for Successful Transition to Adulthood (“Chafee”) to improve outcomes for youth aging out of foster care by improving resources and access to housing, education and training programs. The program currently provides support to foster youth and former foster youth, ages 14 to 21, as they transition to adulthood and independence.

Several years ago, FYi (Foster Youth to Independence) vouchers were introduced to help limit out-of-pocket housing costs. Buckner provides these vouchers through our FYi program.

With the expansion of services proposed in the new legislature, former foster youth will have the opportunity to receive more services up to the age of 26.

Foster care is kingdom work. The late hours, the unknown, the procedures. We know how hard our foster families work to create a safe and loving environment for all kids. That’s why we commit to walking alongside families through counseling, resources, training, finances, prayer, and more, often going above and beyond what is required.

In 2025, there were over 800 children in foster care in Beaumont. There is still a great need for foster families. May is National Foster Care Month and a great time to consider opening your home to a child.

If you want to learn more, we encourage you to join our free virtual information meeting. You can learn more about Buckner and foster care as well as ask questions. Will you join us?
