Last week in Sixth-grade science........

As part of their study of bacteria and microorganisms, sixth-grade students collected samples from around campus and cultured them on agar-filled Petri dishes. After 10–15 days of incubation, students observed the microbial growth from locations such as stair railings, door handles, and chapel pews, bringing their classroom studies to life through hands-on investigation. A good reminder from our young scientists: Wash your hands, Veritas!

We’re excited to share another alumni update!

Anna Kate Owens ‘22 and Grace Ross Owens ‘21 recently began teaching at classical schools.

Anna Kate teaches kindergarten at Providence Classical School in Houston, Texas. She loves teaching her young students and is grateful for the opportunity to help shape their lives with truth, goodness, and beauty through a classical education. She credits her Veritas education with challenging her to think independently and develop beliefs rooted in a biblical worldview, which she is excited to pass on to her students.

Grace teaches Biology and Chemistry to rhetoric students at The Ambrose School in Boise, Idaho. She credits her Veritas education with not just putting facts in her head, but also teaching her how to learn. Through her experiences at Veritas and Baylor University, she has come to value the importance of critically analyzing science through a biblical lens. She is excited to use science to teach her students that Christ is the source and the goal of all creation!

We’re grateful to see Anna Kate and Grace using their gifts to shape the next generation for the glory of God! We’re proud of our growing community of Alumni Lions!

Alumni spotlight: Stephen Gilbert!

Stephen Gilbert (’23), the second of three Gilbert siblings to graduate from Veritas, recently celebrated his Ring Ceremony at the United States Military Academy (West Point), marking the beginning of his senior year and another milestone toward joining the Long Gray Line.

Mrs. Gilbert, one of our third-grade teachers, and her husband chose Veritas for all three of their children. What a joy it is to see the fruit of that investment as Stephen continues to grow and prepare to serve our nation! We’re proud of him and the choice he has made to live out the Veritas virtue of Service in such a sacrificial way!

The Veritas Club America chapter hosted its first meeting of the year, gathering to fellowship and engage in thoughtful debate. Opportunities like these help cultivate the characteristics we value in our Portrait of a Graduate, like boldness and courage to stand for what they believe, while reasoning with sound judgement, discernment and understanding for others.
