It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sergent Mike Chea, a 19-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Throughout his career, Sergeant Chea served at the Inmate Reception Center, Pico Rivera Sheriff's Station, and Industry Sheriff's Station. We honor his years of dedicated service and his commitment to the communities he served.

Sergeant Chea had a gift for lighting up every room he entered. His sense of humor and warm personality brought laughter and joy to those around him, leaving memories that his colleagues and friends will always cherish.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and fellow Department members during this difficult time. We stand alongside them as we mourn the loss of one of our own.

Sergeant Chea will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Firefighter Rick Joseph Fuentes, 26
Buckholts Volunteer Fire Department. Buckholts, TX
Firefighter Fuentes was driving the Buckholts Volunteer Fire Department truck as they were responding to a vehicle and grass fire in the 13000 block of Wood Road in Holland. The fire truck left the roadway near the 7300 block of Farm to Market Road 437 and rolled over. Firefighter Fuentes sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department stands alongside our law enforcement brothers and sisters at Minnehaha County Sheriff's Department in mourning the tragic loss of Deputy Katherine Frank.

Our heartfelt condolence go out to her loved ones and partners during this difficult time.

Her service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

After nearly 120 years of service, New York’s Sea Breeze Volunteer Fire District plans to dissolve. The all-volunteer department has served the community since 1908, covering about half a square mile and roughly 1,500 residents. After years of unsuccessful recruitment, Point Pleasant Fire District is expected to assume full responsibility for fire, rescue and medical responses on November 1, 2026, pending approval of the plan. Point Pleasant has covered Sea Breeze fire and rescue calls since October 2022. Sea Breeze ended ambulance service on July 1, with Irondequoit Ambulance providing patient transport. The district says staffing, not finances, drove the decision and expects little change in residents’ fire tax. A public hearing is scheduled for October 29.

✨Maybe this is your season to stop waiting for the glass to be completely full.✨

Because in first responder family life, it probably won’t always be.

There will be missed dinners.
Changed plans.
Long shifts.
Holidays that look different.
Days when you’re tired of being the one holding everything together.

And you’re allowed to admit that.

But there will also be the unexpected day off.
The sleepy morning together.
The dinner that actually happens at the table.
The bedtime story.
The belly laughs.
The “I’m home” text.
The ordinary Tuesday that somehow becomes one of your favorite memories.

Both can be true.

You can be tired and grateful.
You can miss them and still make the most of today.
You can wish things were easier without overlooking how beautiful some of it is.

You don’t have to pretend the glass is full.

Just don’t forget to notice what’s already in it. ❤️

Maybe there’s more good here than you realized.
