We see the big things.

The calls.
The rescues.
The fires.
The moments when a firefighter walks into the danger everyone else is running from.

But there is so much more to this life than the moments people see.

It’s rolling hose after a long call.
Checking the gear.
Cleaning the truck.
Training and recertifications galore.
The spouse waiting for the “I’m okay” text.
The family holding down the fort at home.
Getting through another night when you’re tired.
Showing up for each other when neither of you has much left to give.

None of those things may look particularly important.

But they are.

✨Because a life isn’t built only in the big, extraordinary moments.✨

It’s built in the little ones, too.

So if all you managed today was to show up, do the next thing, love your people, and make it through the day…

That matters.

More than you probably realize. ❤️‍🔥

The Houston Fire Department is asking our members and the Houston community to join us in supporting Probationary Firefighter Carleon Jones and his family as he remains hospitalized in critical condition following an off-duty medical emergency Wednesday evening.

Jones graduated from the HFD Training Academy on July 23 as a member of Cadet Class 2026 Bravo and is assigned to Fire Station 20, A Shift.

“Carleon is one of our newest firefighters, but he is already part of the HFD family, and right now that family is surrounding him and everyone who loves him,” Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz said. “In the Houston Fire Department, we take care of our own. Carleon and his family have the full support of the department, and we will continue to be there for them in the days ahead.”

Carleon and his family are not facing this alone. Members of his crew, Command Staff and the Firefighter Support Network are by their side, making sure they have the support and resources they need.

The HFD family is with Carleon and his family in the days ahead.

In Memoriam: August 28, 1973 - LODD
Firefighter Steve Mark Arrollado, 18
California Department of Forestry/CAL FIRE. CA
On August 11, Firefighter Arrollado was working with an Engineer on an area of the Bell Valley fire. They had deployed a hose lay; the Engineer was in the process of moving the engine, while Firefighter Arrollado was working the nozzle. Firefighter Arrollado was quickly overcome by smoke and heat and moved into the burn area in steep terrain. He received 3rd degree burns over 40% of his body, and 2nd degree burns over another 20%. He was transported by helicopter to the nearest hospital, and then moved to a university facility that was better equipped to treat burn injuries. He died from his injuries on August 28, 1973.

Randy Lupe (60) with the US Wildland Fire Service was assigned to the “Frijoles Fire” in northern New Mexico when he died in the line of duty. Lupe was a member of the San Carlos camp crew and is from the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation. We paused on reporting this until official notice was released and family notifications thus made. Our deepest sympathy to the family and fellow fire personnel of Randy Lupe.

There are things I wish I could tuck into his pockets before every shift.

A reminder that he is loved.
A reminder that he is covered in prayer.
A reminder that God goes before him into every unknown.
A reminder that he doesn’t have to carry everything alone.

Because while he carries the weight of the gear, the call, the responsibility, and the people he serves…

I carry him in prayer.

And I trust the God who goes where I cannot.

So, Lord,
go before him.
stand beside him.
guard him when I cannot.
give him wisdom when the moments are heavy.
and bring him home safely.

Because behind every set of boots is someone who is deeply loved.

And behind every firefighter is a family praying,
“Come home.” 🚒❤️🙏🏻
