AIGA Chapter Satellite Groups aims to serve design communities and AIGA members in communities outside major hub cities, w
here distance makes attending AIGA programs prohibitive. The satellite group would have some autonomy to collaborate under the AIGA name and create their own programming without becoming an official chapter. As a result, our group has received funding to use over the next two years to launch a Satellite chapter program here in Beaumont and the Golden Triangle region. A major goal of this program is to develop a toolkit so that communities in any regions can become Satellites to AIGA chapters as well. How it works
The AIGA Houston East Satellite will develop in the Golden Triangle region, yet work very closely under the guidance of the AIGA Houston board. The goal is to build our satellite group identify what the needs and interests are of our own unique design community. Rather than have to start an AIGA chapter on our own with specific member requirements, we have the opportunity to grow and develop our group more organically. In the future, we can consider applying for our own unique AIGA chapter. How to Ensure Success
We need members! The good thing about starting as a Satellite group is that we don’t need lots of members to get started. Even just 5-10 people is a good start, but we want to grow and build a great community of designers. There are many creative people working in design related fields here in the Golden Triangle region, and the goal is to become a resource and supportive community for one another. If you want to see our Satellite group succeed, please consider getting involved as a member and attending our new programming. We’ll be sending out announcements via social media. If you’d like to take on a more leadership role, please reach out to us at [email protected]. By taking on a leadership role in these early stages, you will play a pivotal role in making this group a success.
