Veterans of Foreign Wars is calling on all Veterans, Patriots, and Americans in the Cleveland area to join us Wedensday morning in honoring the return home of U.S. Army Cpl. Orestus Marion Stewart, a Korean War hero who was missing in action for more than 75 years.
We will gather at 0815 hours on the overpass near Love’s and QT in Cleveland as the procession escorting Cpl. Stewart passes underneath at approximately 0830 hours Wedensday morning.
Bring your flags, stand proudly, and help us render the respect and honor this fallen American hero has long deserved.
After decades away from home, it is our duty to ensure Corporal Stewart’s return is met with dignity, patriotism, and gratitude.
Cpl. Stewart, who entered the Army from Texas, served with the Medical Company, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division during the Korean War. He was killed in action on August 11, 1950, near Pohang, South Korea, while defending Yonil Airfield from enemy attack.
His remains were recovered in 1954 but could not be identified at the time. Through the work of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, they have now been identified, and Cpl. Stewart will return home this week.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Magnolia Springs. Interment will follow at Springhill Cemetery with full military honors, under the direction of Coleman’s Mortuary in Jasper.
Though his parents and many loved ones are no longer here to witness his return, Cpl. Stewart will finally receive the honor and homecoming he earned.
Welcome home, Corporal Stewart. You are not forgotten.
