The Veterans Legal Initiative is part of the statewide Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans (TLTV) initiative, a program begun by the State Bar of Texas and funded by The Texas Access to Justice Foundation to specifically assist military veterans who cannot afford or do not have access to basic legal services. The Veterans Legal Initiative provides basic civil legal services to Jefferson, Hardin, Oran
ge, Liberty and Chambers County U.S. For veterans needing legal representation and who financially qualify, Pro Bono attorneys will be assigned. The financial guidelines have been adjusted for veterans allowing income up to 200 percent above the poverty level. Legal assistance is available to any Jefferson, Hardin, Orange, Liberty or Chambers County U.S. veteran or spouse of a deceased veteran free of charge. More information
Over the last decade, the program has served over 1000 veterans with services provided by our 150 volunteer attorneys. The Veterans Legal Initiative is made possible by grants from the Texas Access to Justice Foundation, and the Jefferson County Bar Association Foundation. TAJF is the leading funder of civil legal aid to the poor in Texas. Created in 1984 by the Supreme Court of Texas, TAJF awards millions of dollars per year that benefits hundreds of thousands of low-income Texans annually including victims of crime, abused and neglected children, veterans, the elderly and the homeless.
