Sh*****ng is our heritage and a way of life in South Carolina. For far too long, foreign shrimp has flooded our markets, undercut our fishermen, and left consumers in the dark about where their food comes from.

We are pushing back on every front.

South Carolina lawmakers just advanced a shrimp labeling law requiring restaurants to tell customers whether their shrimp is domestic or imported.

At the federal level, we secured two major wins in the House-passed Farm Bill: establishing a USDA Office of Seafood and expanding federal farm loan eligibility to commercial fishermen and fish processors for the first time. We have also introduced several pieces of legislation putting our South Carolina shrimpers and fishermen first.

This is about fairness for our fishermen and healthier, more transparent food for American families.

The farmers of the sea deserve a seat at the table. They are finally getting one.

MAKE AMERICA HEALTHY AGAIN.

Port Arthur Area Shrimper’s Association.
Today we had the opportunity to visit with local shrimpers about the benefits of Texas Farm Bureau Membership. Ted Britton, District 9 Farm Bureau State Director, explained the legislative process and representation Farm Bureau offers on the local, state and national levels. Shannon Martin, Jefferson County Farm Bureau Insurance Manager, presented information on insurance benefits available to Farm Bureau Members. With the newly announced USDA Office Of Seafood, producers and processors of wild harvested seafood have opportunities that have been limited in the past. We at Texas Farm Bureau look forward to a great partnership with Texas seafood producers.
