A cat overpopulation problem exists in almost every community across the country. We acknowledge the fact that the nation's and each community's cat overpopulation problem is complex and involves many different perspectives. We also acknowledge that part of any solution set is sterilization of cats. In fact, many comprehensive and ongoing spay-neuter programs for cats (including this one) have bee

n successful at reducing local animal shelter intake and numbers of cats in communities. We focus on sterilizing free-roaming cats, as they are the largest contributor to the pet overpopulation problem comprising about 80% of local shelter intake. We do this through Trap-Neuter-Return and offer free spay-neuter for feral cats in the area code of 28516 and Downeast Carteret County.

Do not forget!

Tomorrow is Feral Cat Surgery Day!

We can take a maximum of 15 cats in traps tomorrow. Check in starts at 8am, we recommend you coming early. Once we hit 15 feral cats we will have to stop accepting patients.

Reminders: ALL FERAL CATS MUST COME IN A TRAP! They will also ALL be ear tipped.

🐾 Community cats need access to fresh water just as much as food, especially during these summer months. β˜€οΈ

Here are a few simple ways to help:

πŸ’§πŸ’§Put out multiple water bowls in shaded areas.

🧊 Freeze a bowl of water or add ice cubes to help keep water cool throughout the day.

πŸ₯£ Use heavy ceramic or plastic bowls that won't tip over easily. Don't use metal bowls in the summer as they get hot more quickly.

🧼 Wash and refill bowls DAILY to prevent algae and bacteria from building up.

🏠 Place water stations under porches, feeding stations, or other sheltered areas to protect them from direct sun.

⏰ Check water levels morning and evening β€” bowls can dry out quickly in extreme heat.

A few minutes of your time can make a big difference for community cats, wildlife, and even neighborhood pets. ❀️

We could really use some of this paper litter (or similar )for the kittens we are holding until the next transport to Virginia (we will be transporting 20 babies the first week in July).
οΏΌ This particular brand is at Walmart (on line) but any brand of paper litter pellets will work-thank you for helping us get these babies to a better safer place so they can be adopted into good homes

DAY 6: COMMUNITY CATS & OVERPOPULATION 🐾

In community cat colonies, just a few unfixed cats can turn into dozens very quickly.

That's why TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) is so important:

βœ” Stops reproduction
βœ” Reduces fighting
βœ” Improves overall health
βœ” Stabilizes colony populations

And that little ear tip?

It tells everyone that the cat has already been through a TNVR program and doesn't need to be trapped again.

In the United States, an ear tip is a straight-line removal of the tip of the cat's left ear while the cat is under anesthesia during spay/neuter surgery. It's the universally recognized sign that a community cat has been fixed and vaccinated. Our picture doesn't show that because AI doesn't listen and our Volunteers are tired!

Friends of Feral Felines has helped thousands of Charlotte-area community cats through TNVR because it's the most humane and effective solution to cat overpopulation.
