Beaufort Community Cat Project

Beaufort Community Cat Project Beaufort Community Cat Project supports spay-neuter of free-roaming cats in eastern Carteret Co.

A cat overpopulation problem exists in almost every community across the country. We acknowledge the fact that the nation's and each community's cat overpopulation problem is complex and involves many different perspectives. We also acknowledge that part of any solution set is sterilization of cats. In fact, many comprehensive and ongoing spay-neuter programs for cats (including this one) have bee

n successful at reducing local animal shelter intake and numbers of cats in communities. We focus on sterilizing free-roaming cats, as they are the largest contributor to the pet overpopulation problem comprising about 80% of local shelter intake. We do this through Trap-Neuter-Return and offer free spay-neuter for feral cats in the area code of 28516 and Downeast Carteret County.

DAY 5: KITTENS HAVING KITTENS 😿

Kittens can become pregnant as young as 4–5 months old.

Yes... kittens having kittens.

Their bodies aren't fully developed, which increases risks for:
⚠️ Pregnancy complications
⚠️ Illness
⚠️ Kitten mortality

Many people are surprised to learn that a kitten born in the spring can become a parent before the end of summer.

Early spay/neuter is safe, effective, and lifesaving.

The sooner we can prevent unwanted litters, the fewer kittens will be born into lives of uncertainty, illness, and homelessness.

Every day people reach out to me needing appointments and not a single person was able to bring me a cat for this appointment! it it’s pretty disappointing on my end.

If Carteret County had the same service, there would be so many many fewer unwanted litters every year

💛 Let’s talk about something not discussed enough in rescue: Compassion Fatigue

When you’re feeding colonies, trapping, fostering, or advocating—it adds up. The long days, tough outcomes, and constant need can take a real toll.

Some signs of compassion fatigue:
🐾 Feeling emotionally drained
🐾 Difficulty “turning off” your thoughts
🐾 Feeling guilt when you rest
🐾 Losing joy in things you once loved

If this sounds familiar—you are not alone.

At Friends of Feral Felines, we see you. We appreciate you. And we want to remind you:
✨ Rest is not quitting
✨ Boundaries are healthy
✨ Saying “no” sometimes allows you to keep saying “yes” long-term

Take care of yourself the way you take care of your colony! ❤️
