Why yes, you can find fancy things in Beaufort, NC! I picked up this bottle of Armond de Brignac at Beaudega at Black Sheep as a congratulatory gift for some friends. Of course, that got me thinking of the classic lines from the TV show Parks and Rec:

Tom Haverford: "Some ch*****ne?"

Wendy Haverford: "Uh, no, thanks."

Tom Haverford: "Come on. This is Armand de Brignac. Jay-Z drinks this."

Wendy Haverford: "Yeah, well, Jay-Z doesn't have to perform surgery in an hour."

Tom Haverford: "You don't know Jay-Z's schedule. He's a renaissance man."

While I am not a drinker, I am glad that our fine stores around town have some great w**e and ch*****ne selections to pick up when I need to give a special gift to someone who is! Thank you Beaudega for having this special gift, amongst all the other cool things you offer!

If you are not familiar with Beaudega, they sit on the waterfront between Black Sheep Beaufort and the Green Room, and they always have the coolest stuff!!

I tell you, I love me a good sunset, and here in Beaufort, NC, we rarely get a bad one! All sorts of pretty sights, and the sky just a clear as it could be (except for all the pelicans flying over!)

I don't Fear the Fort...I Love the Fort! But 'Fear at the Fort' 2026 is about to start at Fort Macon! If you are a fan of spooky, of history, or if your personal Venn diagram overlaps with both of those things, you need to go out to Fort Macon for Fear at the Fort!

This annual spooky spectacular kicks off this weekend at Fort Macon State Park. Friday October 16th and Saturday the 17th, and the 23rd and 24th, this amazingly restored historic venue will be transformed into something quite thrilling!

In addition to the frights, they are offering fun! On Saturday October 17th at 5:00 pm they are doing a kids Trick or Treat, and the scare factor will be dialed way down! It will be a fun way to get out, explore this unique location, and score some candy!

While I am not a big fan of haunted houses myself, I enjoy any opportunity to get out to Fort Macon, and yesterday my co-worker Arlene needed to swing by the fort to pick up tickets for her, her family, and friends. I enjoyed exploring it while she was getting tickets; no matter the reason you are visiting, getting to take a step back in history snd seeing this time capsule is absolutely worth it.

The Friends of Fort Macon put on events throughout the year. The last picture on here has their October calendar. I would encourage you to follow their page...they are great at getting the word out about their upcoming events!

Sometimes the PERFECTLY suited song comes on! Think about the words to this Doris Day classic that came on this morning:

What a great mindset, and one we can all appreciate...we don't need the fanciest of things to put a big smile on our faces. Look how much joy we can find in the simple, everyday things, like the sun and the moon.

What a beautiful sight! As I was heading east on Front Street today shortly after 5:00 pm, there were three horses hanging out grazing right along the edge of Taylor's Creek. A little further down the road there were a few more off in the distance scattered around Deep Creek. I love being able to see this sight and share it with you fine folks on such a regular basis!

I know I said this quite a bit during the summer, but it is worth repeating:

The horses you can see from Beaufort on the Rachel Carson Reserve and the horses over on Shackleford Banks are WILD animals.

-Please do not approach them
-Please do not try to pet them
-Please do not feed them
-Please do not try to ride them
-Keep your pets on a leash while on the islands with horses (ESPECIALLY if there are horses nearby)
-Take ALL trash with you when you leave the islands

Enjoy them from a distance of AT LEAST 50 feet (the legnth of a school bus), and I would encourage you to stay at least 100 feet away, especially this time of year.

All of these photos were taken across Taylor's Creek from Beaufort; you don't have to be near the horses to get a great view of them!

Ok, I definitely had some 'order envy' of Arlene's meal at Chopstix! Don't get me wrong, my General Tso's chicken was delicious, but look at those veggies!

This afternoon my co-worker/client/friend/neighbor were over in Morehead City for a couple of things, and we were in the mood for Chinese food. It had been a while since I had eaten at Chopstix, and she hadn't tried it before, so that is where we went!

The address is 278 NC-24 Ste E, Morehead City, NC 28557, but the easier way to describe it: it is over near Walmart, in the same shopping center as Happy Cakes, Triple-T's, and Rise & Shine.

They offer both take out and dine in, and the restaurant is cute as all get out. Each booth has a different decor, but what put a smile on my face were the jumbo 3-d printed dragons all over the place.

We sat down and both ordered from the lunch menu; I ordered General Tso's chicken, and it was very, very good. Crispy fried, extremely flavorable, and the sauce had both some nice heat and a good sweetness to mellow it out. The fried rice was quite good, and the egg roll was one of the best I have had in a long time.

Arlene however was the winner winner chicken dinner (lunch). She ordered the Hunan chicken, and man did it look good. She thought it was quite good as well; she said it could have been a little spicier...she ended up putting some hot mustard on it. I was envious of her veggies; her dish had a ton! Good to know for next time!
