Well, Big Rock is officially over, and while I didn't get to bring anything to the scales, I am overjoyed that I had the opportunity to participate in this amazing event!
The waves today were much more friendly than they were yesterday, and we had a delightful run out to approximately 55 miles offshore. There were SO many boats out there fishing today! It reminded me of an old Western movie: 'Round up the posse, we are going after fish!'
The Carolina Blonde Fishing reeled in one mahi, but it wasn't the size to tip any scales, and one other fish that decided it wanted to see what was going on aboard the boat before it was tossed back in.
The sea had a beautiful deep blue today, and it was mesmerizing sitting on the stern of the boat and watching it interact with the seagrass and spray from the boat. Occasionally looking at the greenish yellow vegetation floating in the water I thought I saw the brighter yellow of a mahi, but it may have just been wishful thinking!!
At 3:00 we pulled in our lines and headed back into shore. We had lots of of boats sailing along with us...it was a blast watching them, well, blast through the waves! It never ceases to amaze me, the beauty of the boats cutting through the water.
We got back into dock and had quite a welcome party to greet us; the boat owner, and some of the crew and fishermen's family and friends. The crew let us pick from the swag they had gotten for participating in The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament...I of course chose the Jarrett Bay Boatworks shirt to add to my collection!
I truly enjoyed my Big Rock experience, and I will be sailing with Carolina Blonde in the future, going out to get meat for the freezer. They will soon be offering charter fishing trips, and believe you me, I can't wait!
Thank you everyone for following along on my adventures with Big Rock this week. If it wasn't for all of you I wouldn't have been able to do this!
Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!
