Our June 2026 Yard of the Month is a garden filled with a legacy of love. The family home of Woody Barnes and Brian Malcom at 213 Orange Street reveals the fruits of the owner's family gardening heritage along with traditions at this location that showcase unique and treasured plants, treasures and spaces.

As you wander from front to back, you are enveloped in restoration work that takes the landscape back to original designs. A playhouse built by Woody's grandfather and moved from Wilson, NC to the property was once played in by the his mother. Woody and Brian continue to plant the pink phlox that was always grown in it's tiny flower bed. They brought plants from Atlanta when they moved here permanently a couple of years ago to give the garden the full continuum of family, place and time.

Yesterday’s gardening activity was weeding the corner nearest The Vault ,parking islands ,and all long the boardwalk ! We did not mange to get a group photo but lots of Pretty Lady gardeners showed up to help with this never ending gardening challenge.

Great day celebrating the 2025-2026 year with a tour of Front Street Gardens, including 3 private homes and town spaces maintained by the Pretty Ladies and Master Gardeners…

Now for the rest of the story with the rest of the pictures by Jo Rosser.
Packing the vehicles for our Monday work hour started on Sunday evening. We had 3 vehicles and one trip to our garden shed for tools. Setting up early before the gardeners arrive at 9am. Brief calm huddle and then the gardening energy was released.

The 36 boardwalk planters are a joint effort by the Town of Beaufort,F3 Marina and the BGC.The town received a grant to purchase the plants and soil. Public Works built the planters.The Pretty Ladies planted them. F3 Marina employees will water them. Come on down to the boardwalk and enjoy the view!
