As of this week, all of South Carolina has been upgraded to some level of drought due to the dry, hot start to summer. 15 counties saw a three-level increase from no drought to severe.
Lack of rainfall paired with high temperatures has major impacts on farmers – most early planted corn has been lost, corn planted later is stressed, soybean planting is delayed, and cattle producers are feeding hay because summer grass production has stopped. Many counties are looking at greater than 50 percent yield loss on the 2024 corn crop.
Keep our farmers in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to battle this unforgiving weather.
