Today marks the start of National Nurses Week, and we are proud to recognize the extraordinary compassion of our nurses, including Nurse Practitioner Jane Houston, who was honored with a gift to Beaufort Memorial Foundation.

As one grateful family member shared, "She could clearly tell that I was distressed. She embraced me with great compassion and knelt down and prayed for my sister, for me and my family. The following day, she returned to check on my sister, whom she had never met. I was deeply touched by her genuine concern and compassion."

Stories like this reflect the very heart of compassionate care and the meaningful impact our nurses make each and every day. We are deeply grateful to Jane and to all of our Beaufort Memorial nurses for the dedication, kindness and healing they bring to our community.

✨Trustee Tuesday: Sheila Wilson✨

Sheila’s passion for community and healthcare shines through her service as Secretary of the Beaufort Memorial Foundation Board of Trustees. She joined the Board because it is important to her to give back to the community she now calls home, and she brings that commitment to everything she does.

Sheila is passionate about supporting the Foundation’s mission and is especially excited to help educate others about all the Foundation has done, and will continue to do, to expand access to high-quality care. After experiencing Beaufort Memorial’s care firsthand, she is deeply grateful for the physicians and staff who make a difference every day.

In addition to her board service, Sheila is also a dedicated hospital volunteer, further reflecting her commitment to serving patients and strengthening our community. We are grateful for Sheila’s compassion and dedication, and proud to have her on our Board of Trustees.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Roberts Vaux, a devoted supporter of our community and a cherished member of the Beaufort Memorial family.

Roberts carried forward a remarkable legacy of service, following in his mother’s footsteps as a trustee of Beaufort Memorial Hospital and Beaufort Memorial Foundation. His commitment to advancing healthcare in our community was unwavering, and his impact will be felt for generations to come. He also established the Vaux Clinical Employee of the Year Award, one of the hospital’s highest honors for staff originally established in memory of his mother, ensuring the compassion, dedication, and excellence of our caregivers are recognized and celebrated.

His generosity, leadership, and deep love for this community leave a lasting imprint on all of us. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the Vaux family and all who knew and loved him.

Yesterday, we were proud to celebrate David Purser as our first RN PATH graduate. His accomplishment is a powerful example of perseverance, dedication, and the impact of opportunity—balancing work, family, and rigorous coursework along the way.

His passion for Beaufort Memorial Foundation’s mission is rooted in its holistic approach to expanding care, from investing in people and affordable housing to growing facilities and services across our community.

John and his wife are intentional about where they invest their time and resources, placing their trust in organizations with strong leadership, clear vision, and meaningful impact.
