I’ve seen some questions recently about what qualifies me to serve as Cass County Treasurer, and I think that’s a fair question that deserves an answer.
I absolutely respect the experience that comes from working in the Treasurer’s Office. But I also believe it’s important to recognize that qualifications can come from outside that office.
I don’t believe someone has to already work in an elected office to be qualified to lead it. If that were the case, how would we ever welcome new leadership, new ideas, or different professional experiences into public service?
I respect my opponent’s experience, and I’m proud of mine.
I’ve spent years building a professional background in accounts receivable, insurance, budgeting, financial responsibilities, customer service, and leadership. I’ve managed competing priorities, worked through difficult situations, trained professionals, and held positions where organization, accuracy, and accountability matter every single day.
Those experiences don’t disappear simply because they weren’t gained inside a courthouse.
I have never claimed to know everything. What I do know is how to work hard, how to learn, how to lead, and how to treat people with respect.
I believe qualifications are about more than where you’ve worked. They’re about what you’ve learned, the responsibilities you’ve handled, the people you’ve served, and what you’re capable of bringing to the position.
I’m proud of the work I’ve done, confident in the skills I’ve developed, and ready for the responsibility of serving Cass County.
Experience matters. But experience comes in many forms.
