Duke is normally our quiet, gentle, well behaved boy, so we still don’t know what caused him to suddenly run through a fence separating two of our pastures.

Unfortunately, he ended up with a pretty nasty cut that later became infected. With guidance from our veterinarian and the help of our daughter in law Amber Leighton , we were able to treat his injury and get him back on the road to recovery.

We’re happy to report that Duke is doing great now! ❤️

Life at a sanctuary isn’t always peaceful, even with our quietest residents. There are unexpected injuries, worries, and plenty of sleepless nights. But through it all, our priority remains the same: giving these animals the love, safety, and care they deserve.

We’re just grateful our sweet boy is healed and back to enjoying his peaceful days. 🐴

Webby needs our help. ❤️

We’ve been hit with another unexpected sanctuary expense, and this time it’s for our sweet bunny Webby.

Webby came to us two years ago with scarring and injuries around her head and neck from whatever she endured before finding safety here. Those old injuries left her jaw misaligned, which means her back teeth aren’t wearing down properly. Her molars are now cutting into her cheeks and starting to affect her eating.

This isn’t something that can be left untreated. A rabbit’s teeth continue to grow, so Webbys molars will only get worse. They can cause painful cuts and sores inside her mouth, making it harder and harder for her to eat. And with rabbits, not eating can become an emergency very quickly because their digestive system can begin to shut down. Infection and other serious complications can follow. She needs this surgery to be able to eat comfortably and stay healthy.

Today, Webby had her exam, and bloodwork to make sure she’s ready for surgery ($300). Tomorrow morning, she’ll be put under anesthesia so the vet can file down her molars and make her comfortable again. Her surgery is estimated at $800–$1,000, bringing this unexpected expense to as much as $1,300.
