Last Sunday, August 23, KCS and The Hindu Temple Society of North America came together for a meaningful collaboration to celebrate the Independence Days of India and Korea. The celebration brought our communities together through a Joint Flag March, meaningful songs, and vibrant Korean and Indian dance performances.

We were also delighted to celebrate alongside our distinguished elected officials, including Linda Lee for City Council , Council Member Sandra Ung , and Shekar for City Council Their presence made this meaningful community gathering even more special.

It was a wonderful afternoon filled with friendship, culture, unity, and celebration. We are proud to have partnered with The Hindu Temple Society and look forward to building an even stronger relationship between our Korean and Indian communities in the future!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this first collaboration such a memorable success!

지난 일요일, 8월 23일, KCS와 The Hindu Temple Society of North America가 함께 인도와 한국의 독립기념일을 축하하는 뜻깊은 자리를 마련했습니다.

이번 행사는 두 기관이 처음으로 함께한 특별한 협력 행사로, 한·인도 양국의 지역사회가 하나 되어 공동 국기 행진(Joint Flag March)을 비롯해 의미 있는 노래와 아름다운 한국 및 인도 전통 무용 공연을 함께 즐기며 서로의 문화를 나누는 시간이었습니다.

또한 Linda Lee 시의원, Sandra Ung 시의원, Krishnan Shaker 시의원을 비롯한 지역사회의 주요 인사들도 함께해 주셔서 더욱 뜻깊은 행사가 되었습니다.

우정과 문화, 화합과 축하가 어우러진 아름다운 오후였습니다. KCS는 The Hindu Temple Society와의 이번 첫 협력을 매우 자랑스럽게 생각하며, 앞으로도 한국과 인도 커뮤니티가 서로의 문화를 이해하고 더욱 긴밀하게 교류할 수 있도록 지속적으로 협력해 나가겠습니다.

On August 20, 2026, KCS was awarded a Certificate of Recognition by New York City in honor of NYC Nonprofit Week, acknowledging its dedicated contributions and ongoing activities serving communities across the city's five boroughs.
This honor, signed by New York City official Zohran Kwame Mamdani, holds special significance as it recognizes KCS’s steadfast commitment to community development and the provision of essential resources and services to local residents.
We extend our sincere gratitude, particularly to the NYC Civic Engagement Commission (CEC), for the close partnership maintained by the KCS Workforce Development Department over the past five years—a collaboration that has fostered civic engagement and provided diverse opportunities and support to the community. Moving forward, KCS remains dedicated to building a healthier, more vibrant community by providing essential services across various sectors, including workforce development, arts and culture, education, food assistance, health, housing, immigration services, and youth support. We also wish to express our heartfelt thanks to Sarah Sayeed, Executive Director of the CEC, and Anila Cobo, Director of Voter Language Services at the CEC, for visiting KCS in person to show their support and encouragement for our work.

Postpartum mental health challenges are common—but too often remain unspoken. Join us for a candid conversation about the emotional realities of the postpartum journey, the role culture can play in healing and stigma, and how families and communities can better support new parents.

Today, August 18, KCS Public Health & Research Center (PHRC) NYC Care Team joined the NYC Mayor’s Office IDNYC team for community outreach.
Every week at Flushing Library, KCS PHRC connects directly with local residents to share information about IDNYC and provide guidance and consultation on accessing healthcare services through NYC Care and NYC Health + Hospitals.
Libraries are trusted and accessible community spaces where residents can learn about important public resources and receive assistance connecting to identification, healthcare, and other essential services.
For community members who may face language or information barriers, in-person, community-based outreach plays an important role in making public services easier to understand and access.
KCS PHRC is proud to work alongside our community partners and serve as a bridge between residents and essential public services, helping New Yorkers stay informed, connected, and supported.

오늘 KCS 공공보건리서치센터의 NYC Care 팀은 뉴욕시장실 산하 IDNYC (뉴욕시 거주증카드) 팀의 지역사회 아웃리치에 함께 참여했습니다.
KCS PHRC는 매주 후러싱 공립도서관에서 지역 주민들을 직접 만나 IDNYC 발급에 관한 정보와 NYC Care를 통한 뉴욕시립병원의 의료서비스 이용 안내 및 상담을 제공하고 있습니다.
도서관과 같은 친숙하고 신뢰받는 지역사회 공간에서 주민들이 필요한 정보를 얻고, 신분증과 의료서비스 등 중요한 공공자원에 연결될 수 있도록 돕는 것은 매우 뜻깊은 일입니다.
특히 언어와 정보 부족 등으로 서비스 이용에 어려움을 겪을 수 있는 주민들에게 직접 찾아가 설명하고 연결하는 현장 중심의 아웃리치는 공공서비스 접근의 장벽을 낮추는 중요한 역할을 합니다.
KCS 공공보건리서치센터는 앞으로도 지역사회 파트너들과 함께 주민들이 필요한 정보와 서비스를 보다 쉽고 편리하게 이용할 수 있도록 지역사회와 공공서비스를 연결하는 든든한 다리가 되겠습니다.

Today, August 18, KCS joined physicians, healthcare professionals, community advocates, and local leaders on the steps of Flushing Library to call for stronger access to early diabetes screening for Asian Americans at lower BMI levels.
Asian Americans can develop type 2 diabetes at lower BMIs, making timely screening and early detection especially important. Speakers called on Governor Hochul to sign S.634-B/A.1206-B, legislation that would expand insurance coverage for diabetes screening at lower BMI thresholds.
A KCS Lifestyle Coach and longtime community advocate, Youngsoo Ha, shared his own powerful journey. Diagnosed with diabetes about 30 years ago without having understood the warning signs or progression from prediabetes, he later joined KCS’s six-week Diabetes Self-Management Program in his own language. That experience inspired him not only to better manage his health, but also to educate his family, friends, and community about diabetes prevention and early A1C testing.
His message today was simple and powerful:
“Know your risk. Get tested early. Don’t wait until you have diabetes.”
KCS is proud to stand with our community to advance health equity, early detection, and culturally and linguistically accessible diabetes prevention.

오늘 KCS 공공보건리서치센터는 플러싱 도서관 앞에서 의료진, 보건 전문가, 지역사회 활동가 및 지역 리더들과 함께 아시안 아메리칸의 당뇨병 조기 검진 확대를 촉구하는 자리에 함께했습니다.
아시안 아메리칸은 비교적 낮은 BMI에서도 제2형 당뇨병이 발생할 위험이 있어, 적절한 시기의 검진과 조기 발견이 매우 중요합니다. 참석자들은 낮은 BMI (체질량 지수)기준에서도 당뇨병 검진을 보험으로 보장하도록 하는 S.634-B/A.1206-B 법안에 호컬 뉴욕주지사가 서명할 것을 촉구했습니다.
이날 KCS의 당뇨예방프로그램의 라이프스타일 코치이자 오랜 지역사회 건강 옹호 활동가인 하영수 직원이 자신의 경험을 직접 나누었습니다. 그는 약 30년 전, 당뇨병 전단계에서 당뇨병으로 진행되는 과정에 대해 충분히 알지 못한 상태에서 당뇨병 진단을 받았습니다. 이후 약 10년 전, 한국어로 진행되는 KCS의 6주간 당뇨병 자가관리 프로그램(Diabetes Self-Management Program) 에 참여하면서 당뇨병을 보다 효과적으로 관리하는 방법을 배웠습니다.
이 경험은 자신의 건강을 관리하는 것을 넘어, 가족과 친구, 그리고 지역사회에 당뇨병 예방과 조기 A1C (당화혈색소) 검사의 중요성을 알리는 계기가 되었습니다.
오늘 그가 전한 메시지는 간단하지만 매우 중요합니다.
“당신의 위험인자를 미리 알고, 일찍 검사하세요. 당뇨병이 생길 때까지 기다리지 마세요.”
KCS는 앞으로도 건강 형평성 증진과 당뇨병 조기 발견, 그리고 언어와 문화적 장벽 없이 이용할 수 있는 예방 프로그램 확대를 위해 지역사회와 함께하겠습니다.

We are so proud to share the highlights from the Teen Wellness Workshop on August 15th, planned and hosted with our amazing KCS Mental Health Clinic high school interns. 📣
The workshop was packed with fun games and creative, stress-relieving activities that brought local youth together for a truly meaningful time. 🎨
Throughout their internship, our KCS interns have been diving deep into various aspects of mental health throughout researching, listening to, and deeply empathizing with the real-life experiences of their peers. They turned all that valuable knowledge into this special community outreach event! 🍀
Please give a huge round of applause to our brilliant interns for taking such a meaningful step toward youth mental health! 👏

On August 17, KCS joined a Back-to-School event hosted by Anthem in Flushing, Queens, where many families and community members gathered to receive school supplies and prepare for the new school year.
While families lined up for school supplies, the KCS Public Health & Research Center (PHRC) team connected with community members and introduced programs and resources available through KCS, including the Social Care Network (SCN) and ICAN.
Events like this provide an important opportunity to meet families where they are, share trusted information, and connect them with health and social service resources that can support their overall well-being.
We are grateful to Anthem for bringing the community together and giving KCS the opportunity to help families start the school year informed, supported, and connected to resources!
