Foundation President Katie Capitulo personally visited to grant his Dream: a brand-new iPhone to help him stay connected with friends and family.

Join us as we celebrate our Founders Ron & Katie Capitulo at our 10th Annual Gala this November!

Katie & Ron Capitulo founded the Fairy Godmother Foundation of New York, Inc.® in 2017. Married for 53 years, they have both had illustrious careers in healthcare. The Foundation was inspired by Linda Shohatee, who spent more than half of her life in hospitals and became an integral part of the Capitulo family after their daughter Melissa cared for her as a nursing student. Moved by Linda’s life, and the kindnesses she experienced throughout her diagnosis and treatment, Katie & Ron turned the idea of “making dreams come true” into a foundation that’s now supported 400+ children and young adults with complex medical needs by granting meaningful dream experiences.

Dr. Katie Capitulo, a nationally recognized nurse executive, educator, and researcher, has served as an Advanced Practice Clinical Nurse Specialist, Director of a major Children’s and Women’s Hospital in NYC, and Chief Nurse Executive for leading academic medical centers. She now serves as Board President, Dream Committee Chair, and pro-bono Executive Director for the Fairy Godmother Foundation.

Ron Capitulo worked as a laboratory scientist in New York City hospitals and as a volunteer director of a Home Care Program before building careers as a Realtor and Financial Tax Adviser. For nearly a decade, he’s served as the Foundation’s pro-bono bookkeeper.
The Fairy Godmother Foundation remains Katie & Ron’s favorite charity — and every dream granted still reflects the compassion, dignity, and love Linda brought into their lives.

As the world celebrates the World Cup final today  – we are reminded of a recent dream for a devoted young soccer fan living with complex medical needs. Fairy Godmother Foundation President, Katie Capitulo, visited him and his family in the hospital to deliver a basket overflowing with FC Barcelona gear and a Lamine Yamal jersey – his favorite team and player!

C is a 9 1/2‑year‑old living with complex medical needs, and his dream was to enjoy a special family getaway to Orlando, Florida before undergoing a major procedure. On a magical trip supported by several other collaborating pediatric illness organizations, The Fairy Godmother Foundation of New York was proud to be able to provide C’s family with funding for meals, snacks, and beverages!

“A” is a teen living with complex medical needs who is preparing for a transplant.

His dream was to see the New York Knicks, and we were able to get him tickets to the Eastern Conference Finals at Madison Square Garden! The energy, excitement, and joy of was everything this high school senior had hoped for and more.

“A” has already been accepted to a college nursing program — a testament to his strength, compassion, and determination. The are on a winning streak, and we’re hoping “A” will continue on one of his own.
