🦜❤️ Remembering a Croixdale Legend: Skipper!

Last Tuesday, we paid tribute to one of the most colorful residents in Croixdale history, our beloved parrot, Skipper!

Skipper lived to the impressive age of 41 and was a resident, staff and community favorite before passing away ten years ago. This week, we made sure his place in Croixdale history was a little more permanent by adding a memorial paver in his honor.

And, of course, we had to share some Skipper stories!

One of his favorite tricks was loudly calling, “HELP ME! HELP ME!” which caused more than a little confusion over the years. 😂

Cheryl remembered being on the phone with a prospective resident when Skipper started calling for help in the background. The concerned caller finally asked if Cheryl was going to help the resident who was yelling! She had to explain, “That’s not a resident. That’s our parrot.” 🦜

Children visiting Croixdale would flock to see Skipper as soon as they arrived, and many were heartbroken when he was gone.

Skipper wasn’t just a parrot. He was our mascot, a Bayport celebrity, and a wonderfully unforgettable part of life at Croixdale.❤️🦜

🍂🛥️ That’s a wrap on Croixdale’s 2026 pontoon season!

Today we headed out for one final pontoon cruise and picnic, and Mother Nature made sure we knew it was OCTOBER. 😂

Some of us bundled up in sweaters and blankets… while a few brave souls apparently refused to acknowledge the change of seasons and showed up in shorts and sandals! 🩳🩴

We enjoyed beautiful fall colors, spotted a few bald eagles soaring overhead, ate some delicious food, and shared plenty of laughs along the way.

A little chilly? Yes.
A beautiful day on the water? Absolutely.
A wonderful way to wrap up another season of pontoon adventures? You bet! 🍁🦅

Until next year, pontoon season! 🛥️❤️

🎈The rivalry continues at Croixdale! 🎈

September brought another round of our always-entertaining Balloon Volleyball Tournaments, with the Croixdale River Rats taking on the Croixdale Otters (staff & special guests)!

The competition was fierce. We witnessed impressive foot saves, some out of bounds miracles, and the famous ceiling spikes. It was an absolute hoot from start to finish!

A huge thank you to our residents, staff, special guests, and cheering section for making this such a fun afternoon! 🏆🏐

🐝 C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S!

Did we spell that right? We’d better ask Marilyn, our new Spelling Bee Champion! 🏆

A huge round of applause for ALL of our contestants who bravely faced words that most of us would prefer to encounter only with autocorrect nearby.

And thank you to our wonderful crowd of spectators! Your cheers, encouragement, and occasional sympathetic groans made the competition even better.

Turns out spelling really CAN draw a crowd! 🐝👏
