In May, students and educators in Guyana focused on one of the most important pillars of character: TRUSTWORTHINESS.
Through We Are GUTSY, Inc.’s monthly CHARACTER COUNTS workshops, teachers discussed how to create classroom environments where students feel safe telling the truth, owning mistakes, asking for help, and learning from difficult moments.
The conversation centered on what trust really looks like in a classroom: clear expectations, calm responses, praise for honesty, and a focus on solving problems instead of punishing students for telling the truth.
Even with heavy rain disrupting connectivity at times, the discussion continued with energy, honesty, and purpose.
We are grateful to the teachers, students, and primary schools who participated, including Stella Maris, St. Margaret’s, Providence, Stewartville, Malgre Tout, Mashabo, and Paramakatoi.
Trustworthiness is not just taught in a lesson. It is modeled, practiced, and strengthened through the relationships students build with the adults who guide them.
