Today our 4-H group had the honor of placing flags on the graves of veterans at Pine Valley Cemetery in Bayfield for Memorial Day. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Memorial Day is so much more than just a 3-day weekend. It is a time to remember and honor the men and women who gave everything for our country and the freedoms we enjoy every day. Their sacrifice should never be forgotten.
We are incredibly proud of our 4-H members and the way they continue to serve our community in their own unique ways. Whether through acts of service, leadership, kindness, or hard work, these kids continually show what it means to give back and be involved in something bigger than themselves.

We also want to give a special thank you to one of our 4-H members who traveled from Pagosa Springs to come participate with us today. We love seeing youth come together from different communities to honor and remember those who served.
Thank you to all of our members, families, and veterans. โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

In small towns, people who quietly give their time and hearts to others are what keep communities going, and we are so thankful for Amber.
Thank you for all the time, hard work, patience, and care you pour into our 4H group. From helping our kids learn new things, to encouraging them, supporting families, and always being willing to step in where needed โ€” it truly means more than words can say.
We know being a leader takes a lot of time and sacrifice behind the scenes, and we just want you to know it does not go unnoticed. Our kids and community are better because of people like you. Thank you for everything you do for our 4H family, Amber. ๐Ÿ’š

Hara presented a project to the group where she explained the process of sanding and staining, along with the different techniques involved. Her project board included sample pieces that clearly demonstrated the differences, making the information easy to understand and apply. This kind of knowledge is incredibly valuable for anyone interested in refinishing or upcycling furniture in the future. Thank you, Hara, for generously sharing your skills and insight with the group!

Community service and fundraising are an important part of the 4-H experience. Through these projects, our kids learn that leadership isnโ€™t just about what you achieve for yourself, but about how you give back to the people around you.
When our members volunteer their time, help neighbors, support local causes, or work together to raise funds, theyโ€™re building skills that will last a lifetime. They learn responsibility, teamwork, compassion, and the value of hard work. Just as importantly, they begin to see how even small efforts can make a big difference in a community.
Fundraisers help support our clubโ€™s activities, educational opportunities, and events, but they also teach our youth the importance of setting goals, working together, and following through. Community service projects remind our members that we are stronger when we support one another.
We are incredibly proud of the heart, effort, and dedication our 4-H members continue to show. These experiences help shape not only great leaders, but kind and capable young people who care about their communities. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ€

Did you know...

4-H began in the early 1900s as a way to help young people learn practical skills through hands-on projects. What started as small agricultural clubs for farm kids quickly grew as communities saw how powerful it was when youth were given responsibility, leadership opportunities, and real-world learning experiences. The idea was simple: teach young people by doing.
Over time, 4-H expanded far beyond farming. While agriculture is still an important part of its roots, today 4-H includes projects in science, technology, public speaking, leadership, health, art, and so much more. It is connected to land-grant universities across the country and continues to focus on building confidence, character, and life skills in young people.
The four Hโ€™s stand for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health โ€” representing learning to think clearly, care deeply, serve actively, and live well. For generations, 4-H has helped youth grow into capable, compassionate leaders in their communities.

Trinity, one of our older 4-H members, presented her project last week, and like so many of our members, it was something deeply personal and tied to her future goals.
She presented on cattle and the work her family does on their farmโ€”breeding, raising, butchering, and selling. Trinity explained the life cycle, breeding process, the importance of genetics, and the care that goes into each step along the way.
Her goal is to follow in her grandpaโ€™s footsteps one day and continue the traditions and knowledge she has gained by working alongside him.
Farming and ranching are vital to our world and to the way we live every single day. Encouraging our youth to understand that importance and take part in the process in any way they can is one of the many things we love and celebrate within 4-H! ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ„
