The past presidents of the Bay Men’s Club (BMC), the city’s oldest and largest civic organization, recently donated funds to erect a bench in Cahoon Memorial Park in honor of Ray “Skipper” Yoder, a former BMC president who passed away recently. Yoder was the founder and long-time manager of The Villagers, a baseball team formed to celebrate the city’s bicentennial in 2010. The team plays by the rules in effect around the Civil War. “Ray would have loved this,” Yoder’s wife Fran said. “Knowing you cared so much about him would have made him incredibly happy.” Shown below, left to right, are past BMC presidents Eric Eakin, Dave Blevins, Dwight Clark, Bay Village Service Director Mary Kay Costello, Yoder, and Peter Gierosky.

The Bay Men's Club is very excited to have Eddie Plotts, coordinator of the Cleveland chapter of Sea Shepherd, to speak to the group this Thursday night, May 5th!

The BMC meets at the Bay Lodge (492 Bradley Road) at 7:00 p.m. Meeting is open to all men and not limited to just Bay Village.

Sea Shepherd is an international conservation organization that takes direct action with its fleet of ships to intervene on behalf of ocean wildlife around the world. Founded in 1977 by Paul Watson, Sea Shepherd’s first campaign was against the killing of white-coated seal pups in Canada. Over the last 45 years, the organization has engaged in many high-profile, direct-action campaigns against the Icelandic and Norwegian whaling fleets, the whale and dolphin slaughter on the Danish Faroe Islands, shark finning in Costa Rica (documentary Sharkwater), illegal poachers on the high seas (documentary Chasing The Thunder), Mexican cartels and Chinese wildlife traffickers to save the most endangered marine mammal in the world (documentary Sea of Shadows), and most notably the Japanese whaling fleet in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary (Animal Planet’s reality series Whale Wars).

Today, Sea Shepherd puts to sea the largest private navy in the world with a new focus on working with governmental agencies to stop Illegal, Unregulated, and Unreported (IUU) fishing in addition to our ongoing pursuit of other direct-action campaigns.

Join us for the educational and entertaining speaker, Cinco de Mayo themed dinner, a variety of beverages, and really, really bad jokes! What’s not to like?!
