Pennsylvania Railroad Technical & Historical Society - Long Island Chapter

Pennsylvania Railroad Technical & Historical Society - Long Island Chapter This is a Long Island-based chapter of the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical & Historical Society. We hold four meetings annually, two at each museum.

Our Chapter was founded in late 2014 as not only a local subdivision of the PRRT&HS, but also as a joint effort of members from the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum and the Railroad Museum of Long Island to fundraise for the preservation of each museum’s equipment, many pieces of which are directly linked the era of Pennsy ownership. Meetings are generally held on the first Sundays of February, May, Aug

ust, and November. Our meetings feature presentations from our members on the history of the LIRR as well as the PRR in general, discussion of the current events of related preservation projects, and the chance for our members to physically see the progress of such efforts.

A great show even though sales don’t make us break even due to Sunday’s bad weather. A new venue in the Better Living Center did help us attract more visitors coming to the table, and we did attract additional folks for membership.
Here, my wife Shari, Myself Standing (Neil Feldman, Treasurer and Membership Chairman), and President Joe Costa were in attendance for the show.

Hello All,

As Joe noted, I was the one who discovered that we were placed in a prime location for the Amherst Model Hobby Show the weekend of Saturday, January 24th, and Sunday, January 25th as the Better Living Center is perhaps the busiest out of all the buildings where this show is located at the Eastern States Exposition Center in West Springfield, Massachusetts. If you do go there, please stop by to see us. So far, Joe and myself (Neil) will be staffing the table both days. We look forward to meeting up with those of you who come by to visit, Thank You!

Hello All,

Looks like Santa brought us our gift early this year and a really good one. For the 2026 Amherst Hobby Show, we will be set up in the Better Living Center. This is very exciting not only for me, but the chapter itself. We look forward to seeing everybody there including R. Duck Locomotive Works, Trainland, Rapido Trains, New England Rail Uniforms, Chris LaRose Hats and many others.

See y’all in January!!!

And just like the blink of an eye. Railfest came to a close. Thanks to all who visited our table, donated, picked up some swag. Here’s me and Noah proudly holding 39’s Keystone in front of LIRR’s “official” heritage locomotive SW1001 number 101.

The detail and paint work was done courtesy of the crew at NY&A as the lease was coming to an end and was given back to the LIRR. Many efforts were made to bring this locomotive out as a show piece & sure enough, it happened. Much thanks as well to the LIRR to almost 200 years of service and for being generous to bring 101 out to this weekends event.

That’s a wrap, thanks to all who came thru. Shown here is Joe Costa (President) Rachel Paine (Secretary) and Neil Feldman (Treasurer) who ran the table throughout the weekend. Standing with Noah and Brielle Heilman who treked all the way from Pennsylvania to deliver 39’s Keystone to the Railroad Museum.

I’m beyond words as to how much I’m impressed with how things turned out at this year PRRT&HS Convention in Harrisburg. Your Chapter and New England Chapters pulled out all the stops and gave all their 100%.

I’m especially happy that both the reps from the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum and Railroad Museum of Long Island came out as well to share updates on both the G5’s 39 & 35. Thanks to all who were able to come down, support, buy and learn a few things.

Best wishes,
Joseph Costa
