Dear 100 WOMEN DBA Member:
We want to tell you how much we admire your dedication to the preservation of 100 Men Hall and the continuation of its story. In 2019, the 100 WOMEN DBA was formed to gather women who believe their power and resources have the ability to change lives. Most people do not understand the importance of preservation until we see it firsthand in our own community. It reaches far beyond simply maintaining a building’s exterior or putting up a plaque to commemorate forgotten culture-bearers - it tells stories, honors legacies, shapes neighborhoods, uplifts communities and cultivates the next generation of leaders. It is vital even in a small coastal town where significant Black history has occurred, which is often overlooked and under recognized, for having shaped American culture.
As a member, YOU are part of the 100 MEN HALL’s story.
In 2026, we invite you to gather with us at the Hall to create your own intention candle for the New Year. You will add your own wishes, dreams, visions, prayers for the year to your candle to take home with you. The workshop will be led by Michelle Allee with all materials supplied. Please RSVP for this event to make sure you have a space – the date for this is Sunday, January 18, 2026 at 2PM.
We would like to remind you that as a member you do not need a ticket to events the Hall hosts except for its four annual fundraisers - Rock N Roux, Swamp(gr)Ass Get Down, Booker Fest and Ci**rs Under the Stars. However, you are welcome to volunteer for any of the four fundraisers and your ticket price would be waived. We are always looking for ticket takers, raffle ticket sellers, and other duties. If you would like to volunteer for any event, please text Rachel at 228.231.1920. In addition, members are offered a discount for rental rates for the Hall. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30-9:15AM there is also an exercise class in the Hall.
This year, our store opened and the hours are 9AM to noon on Friday through Sunday. The shop is currently run by one of our members, Linda Belou (along with Doug Page from Good Earth Records). We would like to open the store more days when Spring and Summer come next year, if you are interested in being a Hall docent and shopkeeper from 9-noon, please let us know.
Last but not least, Margo Adams has taken the lead on the 100 WOMEN DBA operations and you might be hearing from her about your membership.
I hope the holidays are warm and bright. Please come this Sunday to our Hanukkah/Winter Solstice/Holiday event – it starts at 5:30 with a lantern walk from the ARTS, winds up at the Hall by 6PM, we’ll light the candles, then Meryl Zimmerman & The Miracles will play all the best holiday songs. It’s free to the community, there will be free latkes and jelly donuts.
Love, Rachel
