"He was still moving. He was fighting — because that's what he did. He was a fighter."

Those are Jessica Lofton's words about her son Zy, spoken in the days after she watched him be taken from her on December 29, 2022. He was 15 years old. He was home for the holidays. And even in his final moments, he fought. That spirit didn't die with him.

On July 11, we're gathering to honor that fight — with an art show featuring local artists, children's work, and the Lofton family's own poetry and words. Every dollar from the silent auction goes directly to relocating this family to safety. Six months of rent. A real chance to breathe somewhere new.

Zy fought until the very end.
The least we can do is show up.

Zykiqurio Lofton was 15 years old when gun violence took him from his family on December 29, 2022.

What followed was more loss, more targeting, more failure from systems that were supposed to protect the people left behind.

On July 11, we're hosting an art show and silent auction featuring local artists, children's art, and works by the Lofton family themselves. Alongside a screening of "Broken Systems, Lost Sons", a documentary that tells Zy's story and the injustice his brothers have faced in the aftermath of his murder.

Every single dollar from the silent auction goes directly to the Lofton family; six months of rent so they can relocate safely, away from the violence that has already taken too much.

No overhead. No middleman. Just a community that refuses to look away.
Come witness it.

On July 11, we're hosting an art show that proves healing is possible — even when the wounds are still fresh. The show features work from local artists, art created by children, and something deeply moving: poems written by Kamarhyon Lofton, a young man processing unimaginable loss from behind bars, where he landed not because he is dangerous, but because he was terrified of becoming the next victim after watching his 15-year-old brother Zy be taken from this world.

Every bid at the silent auction carries a family forward. 100% of proceeds go directly to the Lofton family to fund six months of rent — so they can relocate safely, away from the violence that has already taken so much from them. Come witness what survival looks like when it's made into art.

Join us for Rewrite the Story: Broken Systems, Lost Sons — an afternoon of art, film, and healing exploring youth incarceration, grief, trauma, and survival.

Rewrite the Story is a community-centered evening of art, film, storytelling, and reflection exploring the lasting impact of violence, grief, trauma, youth incarceration, and survival on families and communities.

This powerful project began with one family’s experience in St. Petersburg, Florida following the loss of 15-year-old Zy’kiquiro Lofton, killed by gun violence. In the years that followed, the family continued to face challenges affecting multiple siblings, including youth incarceration and one sibling being charged as an adult while still a teenager. The work explores not only tragedy, but the emotional aftermath that continues long after headlines fade.

The event will feature selections and previews from the full documentary film Broken Systems, Lost Sons, alongside visual art, photography, and creative works from local artists using art as a form of healing, awareness, and expression.
