This is a wonderful story and a great reminder of Studio 23/The Arts Center’s mission and the impact and value the arts can create in our Bay Area community.

We are proud of the community partnerships that help make stories like Madison’s possible. Our partnership with Michigan Sugar Company began with the Farms of the Great Lakes Bay Region Plein Air Paint-Out, but the impact didn’t end when the event was over. That partnership introduced Madison and her family to Studio 23, sparked an interest in the arts, and ultimately led Madison to become a Studio 23 member, take classes, and have her own artwork featured in our galleries.

We are so happy to have Madison and the Schindler family as longtime members of the Studio 23 family, and we are grateful to Michigan Sugar Company for supporting the arts and helping create opportunities like this for our community.

Let Madison’s story be an inspiration if you’ve been thinking about taking a class or workshop...or have been putting it off. There’s no time like the present to explore your artistic side! Check out our current program offerings and find something that interests you. And yes, even if you think you can only draw stick figures, we probably have a class for that. 😉

This week's 50 Artists/Art Around the City feature is Sherrie Tiderington!

After retiring from teaching, Sherrie Tiderington pursued her interest in art. She has worked in graphite, pen and ink, and watercolor. She is drawn to portraiture because it’s a challenge to capture people’s expressions and moods. Her work has been included in juried shows that include several Michigan Water Color Society shows; the Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio; Webster Arts in St. Louis, Missouri; the Midland Center for the Arts in Midland, Michigan; State of the Arts in Saginaw Township, Michigan; and 50 Artists of the Great Lakes Bay Region and MI Artists All-State Juried Exhibition at Studio 23 in Bay City. Tiderington has received awards for her graphite work and her watercolor pieces.

Artwork featured in this post:
At the Shoreline, watercolor
Riverwalk, watercolor
Graffiti Artists, mixed media
Lake Huron Homesteaders, watercolor
London Steps, watercolor
The Three Amigos, acrylic and watercolor

A reproduction of Sherrie Tiderington’s artwork can be found near the Kantzler Memorial Arboretum at map number 39.
