A NOTE FROM Pres. Brian:

Hello, White Sand Lake Friends!

First, I'd like to wish everyone a very Happy Fourth of July! I hope you have a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our country's 250th birthday with family and friends. Let's hope the weather cooperates this year so everyone can enjoy a fantastic day on or around the lake.

Many of you have asked whether we'll be having a boat parade tomorrow. Because the lake is experiencing some of the lowest water levels we've seen in decades, many residents are unable to launch their boats. A quick look around the lake makes that obvious, as most of the boats currently in the water are only pontoons.

That said, for those who would still like to participate, we will have an informal boat parade. We'll gather near the public landing at 11:00 a.m. and head east this year on a much shorter route.

One very important request: please remain in the deeper water and avoid the areas where milfoil is growing.

The annual milfoil survey has just been completed, and unfortunately, the results are not encouraging. Low water levels, along with several other factors, have created the worst milfoil conditions we've seen to date. I'm including two screenshots below that compare last year's survey to this year's. You'll notice the milfoil is much denser, more widespread, and extends much farther from shore than it did last year.

At this point, we don't yet know exactly how the association will move forward. What we do know is that boats traveling through these infested areas can break apart the plants and spread them even farther throughout the lake. That's why it's so important that tomorrow's parade stays outside the milfoil beds, even though that means we'll be farther from shore than usual.

For now, let's focus on enjoying the holiday and spending time with friends, family, and neighbors. I'll provide another update as we learn more about treatment options, projected costs, our fund balance, and total donations to date.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Have a safe, fun, and memorable Fourth of July!
