Welcome to LAHRA – the Lakes Area Human Resource Association. Established in 1999, we are a group of human resource professionals from Brainerd and the surrounding area who are committed to promoting professional development, networking for constructive ideas and providing members with the awareness of political activities that affect the human resource profession. We are a Chapter of the Society

for Human Resource Management (SHRM), www.shrm.org. Our monthly membership meetings provide updates on workplace issues through a variety of speakers and special guests. Additionally, we host a one-half day seminar each year to enhance continuing education in the human resource field. For a Professional Membership, individuals must be engaged in human resource activities at least 50% of their time. As a National Affiliate Member, an individual is a member of SHRM, but may not necessarily be in a human resource function. Associate Members are individuals who perform human resource functions less than 50% of their time. Honorary and Student memberships are also recognized. Membership fees for Professional and Associate members are $225 per year and will be prorated for members that join midyear. We invite you to become a member of LAHRA, to join others in the HR profession gain personal and professional development in the human resource field.

Justin L. Terch MA, MBA, SPHR is the Managing Partner of Terch & Associates Consulting LLC, a leading provider of workplace solutions in Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin. His practice includes internal investigations, executive search, and employment law compliance. He is currently the State Director of the Minnesota State Council of SHRM.

Justin led HR for numerous organizations in industrial construction, healthcare, and public education. For ten years Justin served as Senior Lecturer in the Legal Studies and Business Departments at UW-Superior and is a regular speaker at professional conferences. Justin is licensed as a professional investigator by the Minnesota Board of Private Detectives and Protective Agents and the Wisconsin Department of Safety & Professional Services.

This presentation is designed to teach HR professionals how to conduct thorough, professional investigations of internal matters that meet legal and ethical requirements. Attendees will learn how to select an investigator, tips on managing interviews, assessing credibility, and making final adjudication decisions. Report writing and handling common legal and ethical concerns will also be addressed.
