Our last STUDs meeting of the school year! 🌮 We wrapped things up with tacos, laughter, and a game of “Stand Up – Sit Down.”
This group accomplished so much this year — learning leadership skills, promoting healthy choices, giving back to their school and community, and being positive role models for their peers every step of the way. These students are proof that the majority of our youth are making healthy, positive decisions, and we couldn’t be more proud of them!

Congratulations to our Senior STUDs leaders, Will and Grace. These two have shown up - for their peers, for this community, and for the work of making Lake of the Woods a healthy place to grow up. We are so proud of you both. Go do great things.💛🎓😄

This group of kids started the school year with a plan. Then they showed up and actually did it. 💙 Lock-in. Classroom visits. Lessons on brain science, real talk about real choices, and more than a few laughs along the way. The STUDs (Students Teaching Uniform Decisions) have had quite a year — and we couldn’t be more proud of every single one of them. Thank you for showing Lake of the Woods what peer leadership looks like. 🌲

💙 May is Mental Health Awareness Month — and we think that’s worth talking about.
Life in a small, rural community is beautiful in so many ways — but it can also be isolating, especially when things get hard. Long winters, limited resources, and the pressure to just push through can make it easy to put our mental health last.
We know that mental health and substance use are deeply connected. When young people — and adults — feel connected, valued, and hopeful, they’re more likely to make healthy choices. When they feel alone or unseen, the risk goes up.
Research backs it up, and we’ve seen it firsthand right here in Lake of the Woods County: connection matters.
This month, we’re encouraging everyone in L/W County to:
💬 Check in on someone you haven’t heard from in a while
👂 Listen without trying to fix
🌲 Get outside — even for just a few minutes
💙 Remind someone they matter
You don’t have to have all the answers to make a difference. Sometimes showing up is enough.
If you or someone you know is struggling, the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 — call or text 988.
Lake of the Woods, you are not alone. 💙

Did You Know?
Since 2010, the DEA's National Prescription Drug Take Back program has collected over 15,000 tons of unused medications from communities across the country. That's medications that didn't end up in the wrong hands — or in our water supply.
Saturday, April 25th is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, but you don't have to wait for a Take Back event to do your part. Lake of the Woods County has two permanent, year-round drop boxes where you can safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications — free and anonymously:
📍 CHI LakeWood Clinic
📍 Lake of the Woods County Sheriff's Office
No questions asked. Drop it in and go. It's one of the easiest things you can do to protect your family and your community. 💙

We’re so grateful to our local businesses—Northdale West, Circle K, Caribou, Outdoors Again, Northdale East, Andy’s, Ronning’s, Kenny Lanes, and Lake of the Woods School—for their generous donations that helped make the night even more fun for our students. Your support shows how much our community cares and helps create positive experiences where youth can connect and thrive.
We also had some fun extra prizes, including front-of-the-lunch-line passes for one junior high and one senior high student, plus a reserved parking spot for a senior high driver—definitely some exciting perks! Thank you all for helping make this event such a success.
