The ink has dried and Mr. Kerry Meyers now owns the Indus School building and ALL of the contents. He had an open house yesterday which included coffee and cookies followed by wandering the halls and rooms and wondering what the future may bring. Next there was Q&A with Kerry and sloppy joe's. Then a Talent Show and Live Music. There were a ton of ideas for the future of the building. I can't remember them all but I will list what I CAN remember.
Before the ideas, I would like to share that there was a young gentleman that asked his Grandma if he could tell Kerry what he really wanted the school to be... Grandma said go ahead... he asked so politely "can you please just put a school back in?" A question that many of you might be asking. Please remember that there is still a push to be separated from the district. Hopefully that would help on our taxes since we DON'T have a school in a realistic proximity to be taxed on. Please reach out to your county commissioners, Mr Hauschild, or Mr Skraba. We need to be out of that school district.
OK, The ideas for the future of the Indus School building that I recall are:
Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center, Hostel, Daycare, Music/Art classes/training, Quilting retreat, Summer Camp for sports, Ice time for the community and potentially rent out ice time for groups that may be struggling to share the same ice, Beauty Salon, Ice castle manufacturing, Cold weather testing, Assisted living, folk school, exploration center/history museum, maker's space, folk school, Welding and/or Auto Repair shop/school, beauty school, Air BnB, Many types of training/classes/community education could be held in the building. There were several 4-legged visitors which made me think dog training/dog sanctuary, vet office, Pet hospital, . It still has a beautiful kitchen which would be wonderful to utilize some way, Maybe catering or bakery, bistro, low income housing, arts and crafts shops. Keep in mind that many of these ideas would need upgrades or licensing. Also, alternative school, GED classes, testing facility with moderator and notary public, community library, artist/musician retreat, hunting/fishing retreat.
