Lake of the Woods HS Trap Team

Lake of the Woods HS Trap Team This is the official page of the Lake of the Woods High School Trap Team. We are a member of the MN Clay Target League since 2012.

The 2025 Lake of the Woods high School trap season is officially over. Brant Baron competed today at Prior Lake in the top 100 and wound out a stellar career for the young man. Brant wound up shooting 90 out of 100 today in a pretty strong wind. Brant is second all time in perfect rounds in team history as well as a first place finish at Alexandria a few years back. This was Brant's second trip as an All-state shooter to Prior Lake. I give kudos and best wishes to our two seniors, Brant and Amanda Anderson. I officially hand over the reins of the program to Shayla and Tanner.

Alexandria is now complete and in the end we missed the cut by one clay as a team. Overall, we finished with our highest ever finish for all teams finishing 45th out of over 300 teams in the state. I believe we represented our city, our school, and our coaches as well as we could have. Great job shooters!

Day 7 is in the book and it does not look good for the Lake of the Woods Bears to be going as a team to Prior Lake. With two days left we are now 34th trying to make the top 40. Even if we don't make it as a team, senior Brant Baron will be representing us on the individual side at Prior Lake and is our latest All-state competitor.

Day 6 is in the books. We are now 25th. Need to stay in the top 40 to book a trip to prior lake next week. Wish I could let you all know sooner but we just have to wait this out. Top five from Alex were Andrew Higgins, Bryce Hasbargen, Ally Higgins, Amanda Anderson and Dawson Canfield.

Day 5 is in the books and we are now in 21st place with 4 days to go. We still have a shot at Prior Lake as a team!!

06/13/2025

Day 4 is in the books and we are now in 20th place. Keep believing.

06/11/2025

After day 3, we are 15th in overall team standings. Top 40 teams get invites to Prior Lake for the MSHSL team competition next Friday. Keep your fingers crossed.

Final results are in and we finished with one of our best finishes in team history. Andrew Higgins finished tied for 9th in the boy's division with a team best 97/100 only behind the 99/100 posted by Brant Baron. On the girl's side, Ally Higgins finished 5th overall with a 95/100 and Amanda Anderson's 93/100 landed her 7th. As a team, we finished a school best 5th overall for the day. We are not done quite yet as we could qualify as a team if we finish in the top 40 at the end of the 9 day tournament and senior Brant Baron is representing us in the top 100 individual tournament in Prior Lake next week.

I don't think I could ask for a better ending to my trap coaching career at Lake of the Woods. I am so proud of this group of young people. I leave the team in great hands next year with new coaches Shayla Risser and Tanner Nordlof along with long time assistant coach Jim Walton.

First 2 rounds are in the books at Alexandria and we are shooting pretty well. Andrew and Ally Higgins are tops with each shooting 49/50. Ally shot her first perfect round today. They are followed by Bryce Hasbargen's 48, Amanda Anderson's 47 and Dawson Canfield's 46. Will have a further update later today.

Final results are in for the season, and for the first time in 6 years, the Bears finished out of the top 2 in the conference standings finishing third by about 100 points behind champion Minnewauska Area and Spring Lake Park. We dominated the top ten in week 5 but overall our scores in the middle and bottom were too low to keep second place. Brant Baron was second in the male division in the conference and Andrew Higgins and Bryce Hasbargen were tied for third. In the female division, Ally Higgins and Amanda Anderson tied for third.

The Bears will represented at the MSHSL Top 100 meet for the 9th consecutive year as senior Brant Baron made the top 100 with a 238/250. Missing out by one clay were Andrew Higgins and Bryce Hasbargen. The Top 100 shoot is the week after Alexandria in Prior Lake.

Thank you to everyone who has shown their support for the Bears Trap team. A special shout out to Outdoors Again, Hardware Hank, the American Legion, Whitetails Unlimited, and the Sheriff's Dept for their support.

I would like to personally thank all the shooters we have had over the past 14 years as I make my last trip as head coach to Alexandria and Prior Lake. It has been a joy to watch our shooters improve over the years. It has been an honor to be your coach. You are in fine hands next year with Shayla Risser and Tanner Nordlof.

We have about wrapped up Week 5 shooting but there is news to announce! Yesterday was the first time in team history we had two shooters shoot perfect 50s on the same day. Junior Bryce Hasbargen started the day going 50/50 and finishing the season with two 50s in a row. Later on, senior Brant Baron completed his second 50/50 of his career as well. Brant's first 50 was in Alexandria as a freshman when he tied for first overall with his team record 99/100. In addition to that, 7th grader Ryker Berggren shot his first perfect 25/25 and shot 48/50 for the night. Ryker is the third youngest shooter to achieve a perfect round. He did it in week 8 of 7th grade, Ethan Plutko did it week 3 of 7th grade and Andrew Higgins did it week 2 2 of 7th grade. Congratulations to all the Bears on a great season.
