Tar River
The Tar River Chapter of Les Gemmes, Incorporated received its charter on November 14, 2006, after an interesting year as part of the Rocky Mount Chapter. Shirline Johnson, National President and Dr. DeLores Wilson, National Membership Chairperson. The chapter was sponsored by the Oxford chapter with several members in attendance. a Jones, Ernestine Belfield, Crystal Belfield, Eva P. Satterwhite, Doris Harrison, Charlotte Holloway, Davida Jones, Stephanie Hunter, Dr. Bertha K. Haynes, Nellie Hunter, Minnie Campbell and the late Nancy Gary Joyner. Our first officers were: President-DeLoris Knight, Vice-President-Paula Jones, Secretary-Eva Satterwhite, Crystal Belfield-Assistant Secretary, Charlotte Holloway-Financial Secretary, Doris Cooper-Treasurer, Nancy Joyner-Chaplain, Davida Jones- Parliamentarian, Ernestine Belfield- Chapter Representative. As a newly chapter chartered, Tar River began its community service by providing assistance to a family that had been homeless, recently secured independent housing. One of the wishes of this family was to have a microwave oven. Needless to say, the chapter had limited funds, therefore, the chartered members pitched in together and the family received their wish along with microwavable foods for their enjoyment.
